Half life 3 Underway Coming soon

Did you read this somewhere or something? Im sure it will come out but I dont know about soon.

Half Life 2: Aftermath is coming. It's an expansion pack to HL2. Takes place immdiently after you blow up the citadel. It will only be available through Steam. Estimated completion date is October I belive.

Usually the rise of another Half life game, imo, brings about a new engine / new technology and all that jazz. We'll probably see Hl2: aftermath, then a Opposing Force variant, then Blue Shift variant. after those there will probably be Team Fortress 2. Only after those they can make HL3.

HL3 Will probably have god like graphics whenever it comes out, 2013 :p

Only through Steam? Damn, the only internet connection I can get is Dialup with a max rate of 28kps and it disconnects sometimes randomly. Looks like I won't be getting it.

wow. jsut wow.

Valve already said there will be a HL3 and it will most likely use the Source engine.

I would expect to see Half Life 3 when the next gen consoles are nearing their end. 5-6 years from now. Their is actually no need for it to take that long though. Im sure it could easily be accomplished in 2-3 years. Just dont make your own friggin engine this time.

Just because EA is distributing the game, doesnt mean they are making it. Just because EA makes a buggy game and releases it before its finished doesnt mean that Valve will ship any of their games when its only 80% complete.

Errr EA distributed BF2, DICE wrote it
EA gonna distribute HL2, VALVE wote it

come to your own conclusions

Yes, but EA is a much bigger player with the Battlefield series. Valve wont let EA ship out their products months before its ready.

Wrong

EA published B2 and togethor EA and DICE developed the game
Valve Developed Half Life and EA distributed it.

Big difference

Look up what a publisher is on wiki and then look up what a distributor is. They are very different things.

Valve said there would be a Half-Life 3. They also said, that they will use the Source Engine for it, so they run into problems like they did in the production of Half Life 2. They said they will keep it up to date though, like the Unreal Engine goes through for each new game. If they even started to talk about it, its probably just a couple sheets of paper with the plot on it as of now.

Didn't Vivendi Universal distribute Half-Life 2? EA had nothing to do with it. However, if they have anything to do with a future title, expect EA to screw things up plenty.

BTW HL2 had more than its fair share of issues on release. Don't think Valve can't f%ck it up by themselves. They sure as hell can.

Aint that the damned truth...

I still have problems getting HL2 to play sometimes (Especially after I format...the game will say it is ready to be played, yet the status will only be around 50%).

what kind of things could EA screw up? The box isn't pretty enough? Something is wrong w/the CDs? Misprinted CD keys?

All EA does is make copies of the CDs, shove em in boxes and put em on store shelves.

EA never ever touches any HL2 code or modifies anything in any Valve product. All they are doing is distributing!

...they also do little things like push their developers beyond their limits and release products that are far from finished just so that they can meet the unrealistic deadlines that they deem so important.

<Stares at the tension in this thread. Takes breath.>

Half-Life: Aftermath will be good.

<End Blanket-Statement(TM)>

I want It now. I bet valve has half of it done by now and are playing and testing it...

But not with Valve. Valve hands EA the game when its done. All EA is doing it packaging and selling the game. EA will not have the power to set deadlines.

In a recent article I read, Valve was quoted as saying that they are going to stick with their current engine for a little while. See, one of the good things about using Steam is that they can produce a few games and release them sooner. They know the tools they created and can produce quality results faster. They don't have to make a whole new engine and new tools to produce a quality game.

HL2: Aftermath is going to be very good, I'm looking forward to it. Unfortunately, since I'm in Iraq and my connection sucks balls, I probably won't be playing it for awhile.

Also, the EA hating has got to stop guys. Valve went through the entire lawsuit thing with their previous distributor partly because they will only release a game when its ready, not when the distributor demands it. EA has little to say about this in the new contract, I'm sure.

EA hating won't stop as long as they continue to release shoddy products.

And Valve. They're no better. If anything, Valve pairing with EA is like HP pairing with Compaq...squishing two piles of shit together doesn't make the smell go away. Steam is still a pain in the ass to deal with sometimes.

Neither will the Valve hating apparently. Boy I really hope you don't play HL2, CS:S, or any mods.

Hey you know what would be cool? CS-S in HDR.
You know how many people care about a liitle graphics gimmick?
None.

You know how many people are expecting TF2 to be released within the next 2 years?
None.

For those who do not already know HL2: Aftermath is considered an expansion, not necessarily another full-game in the HL series.

HAHAHAAHA get off your horse buddy. I'd go ahead and say at LEAST half the people care about a "little graphics gimmick". That's why people buy new games with new engines. That's why most games have better graphics than gameplay.
I'm not sure what world you live in but try coming back to reality for a while.

That's the point. I can't. Neither can many of the other people who legitimately purchased their shit through Steam.

HL2 stops updating at 59% and Steam, in all its glory, launches the incomplete game. CS:S isn't worth playing to begin with (Tiny maps and 5+ year old game mechanics aren't my idea of fun). The mods revolve around the HL2 code, so I can't play them either.

Funniest shit I've read all day. I've used three different set-ups to get the POS running. Two desktops, one high-end laptop. Multiple LAN settings (Certain ports enabled, then DMZ) and still nothing. It's the software, not the users.

Haven't you got an Xbox thread to flame?

well, it DOES work fine for most people. how many millions have it and play each day?

I honestly couldn't care less whether it works for most people. It doesn't work for me, so that is $60 gone for a shoddy product from a pathetic company with next to no customer service.

Should I be satisfied that it works for you? Would you be satisfied if you paid money for something that doesn't work no matter what settings you use?

Apparently it is user error

I used to have dial-up and got it working. My only beef with steam was the activation the first couple of days and I don't like streaming patchs. I like downloading the patches and saving them for when I decide to reinstall on a later date.

HDR lighting could make a big impact on CSS's gameplay, as sneaking around with dynamic lighting , or being able to shoot out lights would be significant in the very least. I care about HDR lighting support, its a feature my videocards support, I'd like to see it implemented often, but tastefully. I guess that means I'm nobody?

And I expect info about TF2 after the HL2 expansion comes out.
