I'm just more comfortable with FreeBSD. I moved to OpenSolaris just for ZFS. There's no reason I need to switch, it's just preference.
I'm not doing anything crazy with it so I sounds like I'll be ok.
I'm planning on moving my OpenSolaris based ZFS box to FreeBSD and I want to keep my 6 disk raidz2 array intact during the move. I've confirmed that the pool format, 14, is supported by FreeBSD. I did a very quick dry run in VirtualBox exporting an array from OpenSolaris and importing it into...
Here's another random bird outside my apartment building. I've been busy so I haven't gotten to use it for anything real yet, but I'm loving my new 70-200mm f/4L IS.
I also downloaded the trial for Lightroom and it's the closest I've used yet for what I'm looking for when it comes to managing...
Hot damn!
It arrived. My Xsi feels like a toy on the end of it :) It was overcast and kind of late when I got back from work so I haven't really gotten to use it yet but I like the feel of it.
Translation: I just ordered a Canon 70-200mm f/4L IS
I'm strictly a hobbyist with my Rebel XSI but I also have the itch. It will compliment my kit 18-55mm and the ever popular 50mm f/1.8. I'm hoping I can find a free weekend after it comes and put it to good use.
Has anyone else...
It's actually the episode where they find Fry's dog and Bender is a magician. Both good.
Thanks. It's just a hobby for me so I have to drool over the good stuff but this one has served me well.
I just got a Dell U2410 and so far I'm loving it. It kind of makes my trusty 2005fpw look like crap in comparison and I'm thinking about getting a 2nd. You know, just to balance things out :p
You can see my year old 12TB zfs server sticking its head out on the left, I've been meaning to...
Pro even!
I got a new 13" unibody MBP on thursday. It's actually an early birthday present from my awesome girlfriend, and my first Mac.
This is to replace my late 2001 Dell laptop:eek: I've built several desktops in between, but figured it was time for a little mobile lovin'. I don't know if...
I'd never intended on admin'ing it from the web interface, it's just the first thing I checked to make sure it was up.
I'm already a computer geek so I know how quickly you can accumulate equipment, my apartment is stuffed :D
Thanks for the tips though
Just picked up a WS-C2924C-XL-A surplus from the company I work for. Luckily it looks like it was left in a working config, i.e. I didn't have to dig around and change anything for it to act like a regular consumer switch. Now I get to mess with it :p I've used IOS once years ago, so it'll take...
I had already held it and played with it a bit. Yesterday I decided to buy it. I put up some of the pics I took yesterday and today on flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/malister/sets/72157606286419688/
I already see how I could benefit from different lenses, but the increased flexibility...
Well, it's unanimous so far. Guess when I'm ready to buy I'll get the kit and play with it till I'm comfortable using it and know more what I want to shoot. Thanks for the comments
...or sort-of re-picking up an old hobby. I'm hoping for a reality check here. I've sort of fixated upon the Canon Rebel XSi. It would be the first SLR I've ever owned, i've used others' a long time ago though. I can afford it, but would I be crazy to jump straight to that. Would it be...
As someone who owns the 360 hd-dvd drive and about 15 hd-dvds and has a very love-hate relationship with sony i'm kind of pissed about this. I'd picked my side and was happy with it. Now it seems i'll be buying even fewer HD movies. If it quickly turns south for hd-dvd then fuck'em all, i'll...
Keep in mind a single 2 hour movie is not the only thing going onto these discs. There's longer movies, extras, games, data... The discs can be used for lots of things and more space is always better if the cost isn't hugely out of proportion. So, yes, blu-ray does have an advantage there even...
I have the 360 HD DVD drive so for me this seems like a good thing, the format I just chose is less likely to suddenly collapse now. But I hate this format war and combo players seem like the best way out so thats what I'm hoping for.
I still have a working minidisc player too and though the...
I got to Target 5min before open this morning and scored the 11th out of 15 Wiis. Haven't picked up any games or wiimotes yet, but Wii sports is a great pack-in. anyone else get one today?
When we changed routers last year I ran into trouble with Bittorrent leading to a problem like that, the new router couldn't handle the large number of connections(actually it wasn't timing out the old ones fast enough) so we had to reset it a lot. Not saying that's your problem, just make sure...
zbox... i have no idea what you just said
everyone else: if you still have problems you might want to check this out http://arstechnica.com/journals/thumbs.ars/2006/11/22/6056
I doubt thats your problem, but interesting none the less.
true... for the movies, but you could easily fill a drive if you go for a season of HD TV shows too. The fact remains that the 20GB drive can't hold too much HD video and it's clear MS wants to expand this and make it a major part of the Live experience; they will need an option for more...
I think(haven't double checked) I read that you can re-download stuff you've already purchased, all you have to do is log into your XBL account. So you can delete stuff when out of room. Obviously that doesn't apply to the rentals.
Haven't tried it yet, not sure if i will. In general I like paying a flat fee for all-you-can-eat type of things like netflix or preferably buying the physical(non DRMed dammit) product, if its good enough that is. I like having a disc I can take with me and play on any player I want. I seem to...
I agree that thermite is awesome but they're kind of used for different things so I wouldn't say its for wussies. Though to destroy a hard drive without taking out your house thermite probably would be better, just have to make sure that case is made of ceramic or something wouldn't want your...
Who will rid me of this troublesome lawyer?
It would be nice if they were better at estimating release dates. I think a date should be set for this to happen. I name 7/23/08 as the date afterwhich all game release dates will be announced early and kept. :D
Couple of options here:
1) choose the one that looks best, if you can't see a difference why do you care?
2) choose the progressive scan(720p) for better picture during fast action in games/movies
3) choose the one that matches the native resolution of your TV, which looks to be 1080i...
oh man, that job must really suck this time of year. In addition to being a student I answer phones at my job too, luckily I dont have to deal with that.
I've got a four day weekend and I'll be playing some GoW coop with my brother, might pick up Rainbow Six too. I'm still on the fence about...
I too have had connection problems, I think MaxKool's probably right about what's causing it but its hard to tell. I had some games where I'd sit in a lobby for a while waiting for the last player or two to join.
Of the games I got to play last night it was a mix of immature assholes, elitist...
Well, it's 'Emergence Day' so be sure to jump on live and play some ranked matches or at least download the free theme and gamer pic.
Its kind of wierd, this is the big launch event and I already beat the sp game and now I'm on act 2 on Insane. Still a great game
20GB 3rd gen
I love the thing but its having problems in its old age. The battery is down to the 2-4hour range i think and it likes to go through periods where it wont sync until i wipe it or it just magically works again.
