ZIL & L2ARC SSD Over-Provisioning

If that is the same Intel article that I read a few weeks ago, then yes. However, that only really applies to MLC drives(I'm sure SLC could see some performance boosts, but probably not on the level of MLC long term). That said, the common statement is to never use a MLC for ZIL, only use SLC(Reliability and performance issues). If you are looking for a ZIL drive, consider one of the Intel drives made for their Hybrid Storage system, they are SLC already.
 
Yeah, i was wondering about this for the Talos C's i plan to use for L2arc, if short stroking them a bit and keeping them from taking up the entire drive, if that would have any effect on speed and longevity, but i assume this is not as critical for L2arc since its mainly reads happening here. If you go with the STEC for Zil i assume you wouldn't need to worry about this either.
