What I find more interesting is this comment on linked from the article. This does seem an odd way to build your filesystem.

Solaris 10 is looking more and more interesting; maybe I'll try it out before moving to Debian on my next wipe and reinstall.

You think that's bad - try doing it in vmware. I'm on day two of the install. This thing's almost as bad as XP in terms of "do something, ask for input, do something, ask for input"...

Making matters worse, though, is the fact that I don't know a single Unix-based command. I'm sure that each installation failure that I've experienced could be resolved if I went and bought a book. I'm lazy, though.
