z680 wiring question

i have a set of z680s and i decided to hook up a cerwin vega 12 in a sealed box and throw it under the bed. its pounding and the heatsink inside the amp isnt getting any hotter. im guessing the 8" was a 4ohm load. i figured the aero port tube design would have been much more efficient, but the 12 is great.

anyways, when i took the amp apart from the box i found the red/black speaker wires, theres also a set of wires going into the bottom of the sub box and 3 wires going into the top. did they include components in the sub box? id just like to unhook the sub box completely and use my 12. it looks like it wont quite be as easy. any ideas?

also, does the plastic ring around the sub pop off? i was afraid id break it
 
about the plastic ring, i have the z-560's and the way to remove the plastic ring is pull out the grill over the face of the sub and then remove the screws holding the plastic ring. the ring does not just pop off. but i will warn you i have never removed the steel mesh grill without destroying the steel grill itsself. but after you remove the grill its easy to get the plastic ring off.

the z-680 sub is MIGHTY nice sub. unless you have a really nice replacement i wouldent fuck with it. it makes huge bass for its design.
 
its really a nice sub for computers. however, it lacks low end due to the design. i would also expect more output in the tuned frequency, and freqs close to it, from a sub with this wattage and port design. i know the low end lacks bc of the need for higher efficiency on higher notes, but my sealed, multi-times-blown cerwin vega IT in a 1 cube sealed box sounds much better, is more accurate, and has a much nicer range and ease of placement.

why are there wires going into this box!!!! im gonna get the sub box and the wires seperated one way or another
