Steve Jobs proudly announced today that, for the first time ever, the world will be able to watch YouTube in your livingroom thanks to AppleTV! I know people have been browsing YouTube via HTPCs, the Xbox 360 using the Media Extender or directly from a PS3 forever…but you don’t count. ;)

"This is the first time users can easily browse, find and watch YouTube videos right from their living room couch, and it's really, really fun," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "YouTube is a worldwide sensation, and Apple TV is bringing it directly from the Internet onto the widescreen TV in your living room."

The Wii is the best living room youtube machine at the moment. Seriously, if you haven't tried it do it asap, it's amazing and very easy to use. The other browsers are pretty clunky due to the controller interface, but the wiimote makes it a breeze to use, and the browser is Opera and acts quite snappy. :)
 
Nevermind the fact that the average Youtube video is of such abysmal quality that you may not even be able to tell what you are looking at on a large format television.

The PS3 does YouTube really well...far better than the Wii, especially when using a wireless keyboard and mouse with my PS3 on the bigscreen. My Wii is a bit too sluggish for my tastes.
 
Steve Jobs alwasy thinks that whatever Apple's doing is the latest and greatest.

PowerPC is teh fastest chip in teh world!
Too bad the AMD64 was trouncing it at the time.

huh? AMD64 didnt exist for most of the life of PPC... the Athlon 64 was released in 2003... and the first PowerPC apple started using (the 601) came out 10 years earlier in 1993... and they switched to intel in 2006 so ya, 3 year window compared to the PPC's 13 year run i think is pretty decent...
 
I've been watching youtube on my XBMC (now with XTV skin!) for a couple years now.
 
Steve Jobs is full of $#17 and Apple, Inc. is a freaking Communist corporation.

Steve Jobs ALWAYS pulls off this dumb ass crap and his legions of Communist fanboys/fangirls will always believe him.

This isn't the first time he's done this... just recently he said that the iPhone was a freaking revolutionary device, yet mobile phones released in Asia using 3G technology have already done everything the iPhone does and better (can't forget to mention that 4G technology will be out in the next few years, too).

My personal favorite is when Steve Jobs announced the iPod shuffle and tried to explain how "revolutionary" the concept of shuffling music was. As in, having songs being randomly played... it's freaking ridiculous, even 1st generation and 2nd generation MP3 players featured that technology long before the original iPod even came out. BUT PEOPLE STILL BELIEVE HIM!

What I hate even more is that even though I hate Apple so much, they know that the masses are dumb and would believe this stuff, they really know how to run a business and make money off idiots
 
They're quite Communist in how they police their forums (as in, deleting posts of criticisms and posts about malfunctioning devices) and they're also quite Communist in how they run their business model... you can only get your stuff from them and from Apple approved stores... quite different from the free world that PC users enjoy in being able to go to any computer store and build their computer from scratch, WITHOUT prices being set in stone by some Communist company thus encouraging competition between computer stores

Personally, I think YouTube kind of sucks now anyway. And Mark-o is right on the video quality...I can hardly get it to look good on my computer display - what's it going to look like on my bigscreen?
 
Um does anyone realize no where do they say its the only device that can do it, nor are they the first? Please people, don't let your anti-apple bias blind you from actually reading, it just says that iTV brings youtube to the family room, if BMW says they bring luxury to your garage you don't assume they are telling you they are the only luxury cars.
 
Wow i feel sheepish, i just read through the article again and he does say it's pretty much the first to bring youtube to the living room, my bad, im dumb.

i think what they mean is the first of its kind. sure consoles can do it, but do tv tuners? no sir
 
SageTV has had this, and Google video for a while now.

The AppleTV still kinda blows.
 
I think Jobsy has forgotten the entire line of windows media center users, who have been watching online videos since they first got big on their HTPCs (home theatre PCS)
Also I was hooking my 200 MHZ intel computer up to a big screen tv in 1999 to watch movies i had downloaded. It required a separate vga to composite box.
Seriously, claiming that that is a first for youtube in the living room is ridiculous. I hope someone in the press there slammed him for saying that.
 
Why does apple always claim to be the "first" in everything when they are clearly not?


their XServer, Iphone, Ipod, Imac, AppleTV, etc...
 
I also just read the interview with Jobs and Gates sitting together and Jobs said that for the iPhone they are going to have a maps program that "blows away any Google Maps client."

I will believe that when I see it
 
Great, so now not only do i get to see stupid people do stupid sh!t, I get to see stupid people do stupid sh!t on a big screen!
