...but really, same reasons as some other people: running programs in a controlled environment that may mess up your system and/or running programs that aren't compatible with vista
using zune/itunes in a VM is an interesting idea...but can you actually sync a zune/ipod to a VM..?
I started using vm (XP)at work after my last workstation died to use software that doesn't have full compatibility with vista. Saved us from a $5000 software upgrade, or a format with a XP pro disk purchase.
Home(ESXi):
-Proof of concept lab for iSCSI/ESX/general testing. Mainly because my company is too cheap to invest in a testing lab.
-Content delivery for my VMC/Extender devices.
Work(VC/ESX):
-Sandboxing application servers without spending a ton on dedicated hardware.
-Creating a HA environment for production critical services without the use of costly and flaky clustering offerings.
-Quick deployment of new servers.
