I've started building my computer and got to installing the processor and the thing just wouldn't sit right!!! Every tutorial said not to use pressure so I didn't, but it just wouldn't sit.

Then I hit the 'net and realized the n00b mistake I had made. I had bought a A8V Deluxe (939) mobo, thinking it would accept my AMD 64 3200+ (754) since on their website, they said they supported 64's. Then I found out they only said that because they make 64's with 939 sockets.

So now, I've got to return the mobo, pay shipping, take the 15% hit for restocking and then buy a new mobo.

It sucks to be a n00b. :(

Bummer man, I feel ya. You get all excited to put it together and then realize you have to wait a few days.

Bummer man, well at least you didn't slam the processor in the mobo and ruin both of em and be out a bunch of cash.

Don't worry man; we all make n00b mistakes sometimes. I tried to put my RAM in backwards for 10-15 minutes before realizing what I was doing stupidly wrong . :p Better you did not ram it in there an kill both mbo and CPU though.

Hey how about retruning the 754 CPU and get a nice new 90nm 939 chip

We all make n00b mistakes, though that does suck a little, so I hear ya.

Here's a thought

Good thing you have more patience than I do, I would've eventually forced that socket 754 CPU to fit in the motherboard.

Yeah, I'm going to return the CPU and get a 939 . . . which one I'm not sure yet.

Actually, I hope I can return the CPU. They say you can only return CPU's 7 days after invoice and my invoice is dated the 6th. Since they're closed for the weekend, that means I only have Monday to send it to them. Does that mean I've got to same-day or overnight it? Hopefully they just mean it has to be postmarked by the seventh day. If not, there's going to be a cheap, brand-spanking new processor in the For Sale forum. :(

Definitely restunr the CPU if you can and get a socket 939 if you can. We all make mistake so don't feel bas. JUst next time post a thread here asking for our suggestions and we would of noticed if soemthing was not compatible.

LOL!!! noob... sorry i just had to say that... trully.. it's all good.. you didn't break anything so that's always good..

i don't think i've ever made a mistake like that though.. i was always paranoid in my early days, so i woudl consult with like 100 different peopel to make sure all my gear would work together.. lol...

Actually, I did post this configuration:

Question on Building a Computer

Scroll down to the last picture I posted and you'll see them. I guess no one caught it. That isn't my final configuration btw. Here's what I ended up getting.
