I finally installed my new XP-90C after it sitting in the box for over a week now. I added my Tornado fan as well. Dropped my idle temps from 46-48 degrees C to right at 36...WOW!

One question on that Tornado fan...it is a little louder than the fan I had on my Thermaltake HS...The tornado only has a power wire and a wire that goes on the motherboard for speed monitoring...so I guess there's no way to adjust the fan speed on it...is there?

Well, when I ordered it the guy said it had the speed control on it. I was going to use my Thermaltake controller with it...but no where to hook it up :(

What cpu are you running those XP-90's on and what temps are you getting with that fan?


Anyway...the noise is about to drive me and the wife crazy...so I'm ordering something else...thanks for the suggestion.
 
I doubt the dBA on that Thermaltake is comparable to other companies dBA. Be wary of Tt's dBA ratings. They often underreport them. I think they might test farther away from their fans than other companies or something.

Panaflo is a quality choice and they can also be found on Newegg now. Delta fans start out loud (i.e. at full rpm), but they are supposed to be have a good cfm:dBA ratio when you have a fan controller to lower the rpm slightly.

Fans aren't expensive, so I wouldn't skimp and get a disreputable company's fan over a slightly more expensive quality fan.

i have that fan,,but orange on my heatsink...and yes...its dead friggin quiet my case is on my desk right next to monitor...i thats prolly close enough to me... :D
i also have the thunderblade 120....that pretty quiet to, considerin how much air it moves
 
I have an xp-90 waiting on my doorstep for me to get home from work :)

I have an extra tornado that I'm going to use for the fan. Does it fit with the clips that comes with the heatsink? It's 38 cm thick correct? Compared to normal 25cm fans...

yellow wire is 12V. Red Wire is 5V. Black wire is ground (0V).

With a 12V fan the pos from the fan would go to the yellow wire, neg from fan would go to black wire. 12-0= 12V

7V mod you would keep the pos from the fan going to the yellow wire, but redirect the neg from the fan to the red wire. pretty simple to do. Just need something sharp enough to push into the header to release the socket, and then push the socket into the next place over so it lines up with the red. Now it's 12-5= 7V

Fan running on 7V won't push as much air, but it ill be hella quieter.

Yep, my tornado fan fits right on top of the heatsink using the clips that comes with the XP-90c.

Two 754,s overclocked and one 3800 venice at 3830. All three are 100% load 100% of the time 24/7 doing the Folding@home DC project. My room is about 73f average, high temp on the worst case cpu is 42c, very acceptable for air.

People love to pick on ThermalTake but some of their stuff is good, espcially that fan. The Db rating is actually a bit low, it's silent even just holding it in your hand. No way can you hear it in the case.

Well, I solved my chainsaw sounding fan problem. My pc has several power plugs labeled FAN ONLY. So, I plugged my Tornado fan into one of those and it now runs at 2,000 rpms and quiet as everything and I'm still setting at the same temps I was when it was running 5,000+ rpms.

What a relief...that thing was super excessively noisy :(
 
THERMALTAKE SilentCat 9cm 90mm fits on the XP-90? Thought they had to be 92mm or does 90-92 not make much difference?
 
you can put a 90 on there. I had a tornado on it...but then I tried a Panaflo 92mm and it cools just as effectively...you don't need a damn tornado :)
 
Seems a bit silly to put a tornado on something and 7v it....I mean, might as well get a kinder, gentler fan rather than debilitating the finger-maiming beast.


The 80mm tornado I have still whines louder than most fans even when slowed waaay down.
 
What would you guys rather go with, that white 90mm fan above or a Panaflow H1B or L1B?
