XP-90 or Freezer 4?

I got a Skt 478, P4 2.8E FSB 800MHz
Well i am really irrated by noise so should i get a 25dba-30dba fan with the xp-90 or should i just get a arctic freezer 4, i might do a little bit of overclocking on stock voltage. Any thoughts, comments, would be appreciated. Thank you for replying.
 
can your mb support the xp120? I would recommend the xp90 over the freezer 4, just because you can choose your fan. With the freezer 4, you are limited to the existing fan.......
 
i want the quietest solution yet the cheapest, so is freezer 4 the best go? i ll save >20 bucks if i get a freezer 4, do you think it will be better then the stock heatsink?

Meaning, you can always bump up the fan on the XP90 but you are locked in with the Arctic. If you think it will cool well enough for your overclocking then go with it, but if not then you go with the XP90.
 
thats a good point there, i ll get a xp-90 with a silent fan and if it doesnt work i ll get a higher cfm fan

I guess I'm too late, but man, I am truly impressed with the Freezer 4 I bought.
I know temp readings are complete lies, but still, I dropped a full 12 degrees celsius over my Zalman 7000AlCu. And I paid under $30 including shipping and tax.

It's also about as quiet, maybe slightly more so at 12 volts than the Zalman at 7 volts!

The only problem was I had to deform my northbridge heatsink to make it fit. The clip was hitting the heatsink, so it wouldn't lock into place. That's on a P4C800-E.
 
does it screw up airflow, i heard it screws up airflow if you dont have good case air flow or if you place the heatsink so that the air rises and u dunt got a fan on the top part of the case your case gets hot.

i still got 12 days to decide but so far is 80 per cent of me is for the xp-90!
 
Since the freezer is a flow-through cooler - can you add a 2nd fan to the other side?

Not cheap, but I challenge you to find something quieter.

Look at that. Through the cooler and strait out the exhaust. It can also be mounted facing up if you prefer, but I think this worked out wonderfully.


About the 2nd fan, you could rig it. Maybe with rubber bands or something ghetto like that. However, I held a 120mm fan blowing about 100CFM underneath it (blowing up towards the PSU intake) and it only dropped around 1-2 degrees. I don't think getting the heat off the heatsink is an issue on a Northwood core. Maybe on Preshot you would have enough heat to start to raise temps of the heatsink a little and that would help. But for me, it's not necessary, even when overclocked a few hundred MHz.

tat thing looks gignormous is it as big as xp-90? w/fan
 
I don't know, I don't have the XP-90... ;)

But looking at their respective sites:
XP-90: 110 (L) x 125 (W) x 63 (H) mm NO FAN
Freezer4: 114 (L) x 92 (W) x 120 (H) mm WITH FAN

So it's about the same front to back, 3cm less wide, and between 2-3cm taller depending on fan width.

I did however, have to slightly bend two fins on my northbridge heatsink to get it to fit. It was no problem, it probably cools better this way anyways. :p

Wow, the XP-90/120 is a lot lighter than I thought. The Freezer 4 is 488g, the XP-120 is only 360g without fan, XP-90 350g without fan. But the fan would be about another 100g, so it's close between them all.

yeah, it's 100% aluminum, so that helps out a lot
