Which 6800GT SLI is better? XFX or eVGA? Both can be found in PCI-e form for about $340. It looks as if both use the stock heatsink so I would assume that OCing would be about the same for both of them.

I heard that many people are having some troubles with their XFX 6800GT cards, specially temperature issues..

I would go with Evga..

stock = stock = stock...

Get the one with the better warranty... and I could be wrong but I think that's evga.

Where did you find them for $340?

Both of them have a 2 year warranty. However, for the eVGA, i believe that you have to register your card on their website to receive your second year... otherwise it is just a 1 year.

TigetDirect has a $20 rebate on the eVGA 6800GT PCI-e SLI card making it only $339

the XFX can be found for $340 at this site.. no rebate either.

I have heard some bad things about both of these sites, but i don't really care. they have a low price, and since i will be putting it on my card, I will just deny them payment if they BS me.

Not all cards are created equal. eVGA is a excellent manufacturer with a pretty good reputation. The registration of the card for a second year isn't a real big deal. It takes very little time to do it. I've done it on both of my 6800GT's.

The XFX cards I hear mixed things about. Its my opinion that if you get a good one, its just as good as any other brand, however if you get a bad one, you might as well get ready because you'll have to fight to get it RMA'ed.

This is just based on what I have heard about XFX.

XFX seems to use wimpy heatsinsk... i probably wouldnt buy a card from them since i have terrible experiences with cards dying on me that used wimpy heatsinks similar to theirs.

eVGA > XFX

XFX is a division of Pine, which made some pretty crappy products....whereas eVGA is like Sapphire for nVidia. Hell, eVGA is the only company that made the Ultra Extreme Edition. Also, eVGA has always been reasonably priced, unlike Sapphire (because of the demand for their cards). But in the end, it's your dollar, spend it where you feel wise.

I own a evga and i even used the step up program with 0 problems and i've always been under the asumption that XFX is crap. EVGA ALL THE WAY!

Thanks for all the suggestions. before, i was leaning towards the eVGA card
Now it is a sure thing that i will buy that eVGA card.

now do any of u posters have ither an evga or xfx geforce 6800gt? or are u all talking out ur ass?

I have two XFX 6800 Ultra's and they work perfectly for me.

Even came OC'd out of the box at 425mhz.

My XFX is really nice, it can go to 425/1.1 on stock voltage and cooling, I got really lucky. :D Only complaint is that it idles at like 63C :(

From what I've heard, most XFX cards seem to have higher quality ram chips and get vey high overclocks, but much of the time the heatsinks are applied with too much paste making them run a bit hot on the stock heatsink until you reapply it.

which, as we all know voids your warranty...

As an owner of an XFX and eVGA, I have to recomend the eVGA hands down. When I took the cooler off my XFX, the corners of the die were literally gone, probably from too much pressure on the card or something and it the hsf had poor contact with the gpu.

The eVGA is a great card, only complaint is the power cable for the fan was epoxied to the board so I being lazy and ghetto just cut it off when replacing the cooler. Runs so much better than the XFX though.

Haven't overclocked either though, so I can't comment on that.

Well both my eVGA cards overclock pretty well. My PNY that I had in my old AGP rig didn't OC worth crap.

While OC'ing is luck of the draw for the most part, the quality of capacitors and other components on the card can have an impact over stability. So sticking with a better manufacturer is a pretty good idea.

about 2-3 months ago a posted the exact same question and i went with the Evga, I'm so happy!
i have heard alot of stuff about the differences including the RMA run-around from XFX, Evga is a sweet card and...well thats all there is to it, get the Evga, you wont be disappointed or get the XFX and you wont be disappointed. what you will be however is very happy that you got a great card the, 6800GT!
have fun and Game on!

evga is better but personally I say go with a BFG because they are THE best nvidia manufacturer, their cards are preoced, their cards oc very well, and they have a LIFETIME warranty.

eVGA sucks. I got a 6800GT from them, and it was F'ed in the A, so I RMA'ed. They sent me a brand new one a couple weeks later, pretty fast for an RMA, but.... that card was also F'ed in the A. So, I figured, you know I might just have bad luck, do another RMA, got a 3rd card, that one worked... for about 3 days and then that one was F'ed in the A. So it took a while but I had them refund my money and I then bought a BFG verson of the same card, flawless, and no problems even resembleing the ones I had with eVGA's so that tells me it was eVGA and not me or my machine. And just so you know what I mean by F'ed in the A, this it what it was doing. Needless to say I would never ever buy a eVGA product ever again.

The odds of 3 cards in a row from any manufacuter being fried are off the charts. I suspect improper handling but the user. EVGa makes all the reference cards for Nvidia and I have own a mulititiude of cards made by EVGA that have had 0 issues.

I doubt very much much you had 3 cards fail without you being the cause

they could have just sent the same card back 3 times with the problem not being totally fixed. sapphire did that to me twice with a radeon 9800 pro. finally the 3rd time it worked properly.

I agree. Statistically speaking, the odds of that many cards being bad in a row, is next to impossible. I would suspect some other issue as the cause of such a problem. If he RMA'ed the card and eVGA didn't find anything wrong with it, they might have sent the same card back two or three times.

Most returns on computer and computer related products that are supposedly defective are the result of improper diagnosis from people who bought the stuff to begin with or damage from being handled improperly.

You need to read what I posted more carefully, I stated that they sent a brand new card each time. And you can think what you want, but its not me that caused the problem, and if it was how does that explain the BFG 6800GT that I got and how it works with no problems? Right then.

Um, you work for BFG and they are nervous due to the fantastic success of the EVGA step up program versus the cough life time cough Warranty that only fools the most nieve of consumers?

Yea nice. I work for BFG and they pay good money to come on forums and say eVGA sucks. Get real. lol

Um, cough eVGA phanboy cough?

If I had the $$$ I would definitely go with BGF. Unfortunately, I don’t and I was able to get the eVGA PCI-e 6800GT for $359 with free shipping. BFG has slightly better quality, but I would have to say that eVGA is a superior value.

i didnt read the thread. im just giving my opinion.

evga makes the Nvidia reference cards. i would go with evga.

I have an XFX (AGP though) which has given me no problems whatsoever. Even though it is in a Shuttle it has yet to overheat but granted I run it a stock speeds, unless I figure out a way to cool it better, then I might try OC'ing. My idle temps are 51-52 to 55-56 depending on room temperature and under load it's never even reached 80 but usually hovers around 75-77 under heavy load in a warm room. I actually was considering an eVGA when I was putting together my new rig but they were hard to find in stock anywhere. I found a good deal on the XFX and the only glaring complaints I heard about them, at the time, was crappy customer service. So I decided to pull the trigger and all has been well.

In the end I don't think it matters too much. Both seem to be good cards (along with BFG) but of course everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

I have a Dual XFX 6800 Ultra SLI system and I've never had any problems with them at all. Nice bundle of games which came with the hardware and the cards are excellent. Pretty much identical to the nvidia reference design with a different logo on the fan casing.

Convinced me to consider XFX for my next purchase... in 5 years time when I can afford some computer hardware again :D

I agree, Evga...

Cuz I have one and it works.. :D

Having three cards, all fucked up, is extremely unlikely. Chances are you fucked the cards in the A in whatever way.

Back to the original topic, I'd go with eVGA over the other company simply because the card I have from them has been good. I have it at 400/1100 and it works great. I thought I had an issue with it and thought I should RMA it 7 months after I've owned it and eVGA accepted, since I've decided that the card isn't at fault, eVGA has reimbursed me the costs for shipping the RMA. I wish I had the option to RMA my previous ATI card when it displayed strange artifacts but you might as well be buying from Hector Juan Gonzalez inc PC supplies when you buy an OEM ATI card :(
