just got a XFX 6600gt and realize that it doesnt have an external power connector (i remember my brother's 6800LE AGP need external power). anyway so i guess it pulls power out of the PCI-e slot right? however what if my PSU plugged into my motherboard is only 20pin (Ultra X-connect 500w PSU)? does that mean it won't work?

i dont have a chance to go home and try yet, but hope you guys can help me (like buy special cable to make the work with 20 PSU) before i head back home.

those extra pins are parallel to the existing ones for +12v and +5v (i think), they don't power the PCI-e bus exclusively. It should work, but I'd get a 24 pin PSU as soon as you can.

my Asus A8N-SLI 24pin mobo works fine with my FSP 20pin

the PCIE 6600GT just pulls the power out of the slot
