i have a Xfi fatality platinum with vista64, i just got my A900's and im trying to set the best settings but when i set it to headphone it just does not sound right, im not into audio so i dont really know how to explain it, but when i switch from 2.1 speakers to headphones its like the volume lowers and the vocals and sounds are coming from a distance it helps a little bit to increase the volume but still the 2.1 speakers settings with my headphones sound way better and more normal than the headphone settings.

is this normal what is going on here?

it has been about 7 months since i had my A900's and used the headphone settings on my a900 but i remember on my old windows xp system the headphone setting sounded great and i would always use it especially for games.

Personally I prefer to use 2/2.1 channel mode for headphones, for the same reason you cite. The soundstage is just much better than with tthe headphone setting.

Just keep it set on 2/2.1. Headphone presettings are usually tuned for generic low quality headphones.

the headphone setting is for games w/cmss3d enabled. its not for music
disable the cmss3d and headphone and 2 speaker settings sound the same.

also- volume controls are seperate for each setting
