x850 XT initial benchmarks

Looks like ati made a great vid card  wow just wow 15mhz-20mhz increase. just amazing. makes me want to buy one now....

Don't you think it would a little too soon to release completely new technology?

Every company does minor speed increases..over the lifespan of a chip.

Did you roll eyes during the various Nvidia refreshes or when ATI released the 9800XT?

Its not like any should be suprised that they did this.

Try not assuming that every new videocard announced is aimed at people who allready have a top of the line videocard.

Amazing...simply overclock the core and memory, and add a blower on it to compensate, and call it new technology....oh yeah, and make it available now, but only for PCI-E, which AMD64 doesn't have a chipset for yet, and is the best platform to run gaming on...yeah, 454 big block doesn't do you shit if you're running on treadless tires. I'll stay with my 6800 Ultra thanks :p

What a stupid remark! I give ATI alot of credit for trying to fix the availability problems of the X800 XT PE. The 6800 Ultra is still a specialty card, meaning it still is plagued by poor availability. I do not think this was a planned refresh by ATI. They realized they had big production problems and busted thier humps trying to fix the problem. Hence, the X850. While they were at it they just happened to produce the fastest single card solution on the planet. What really suprised me was both the X800 XT PE and the X850 XT PE absolutely trouncing the 6800 Ultra in newer games such as Star Wars Battlefront, Madden 05, and Need for Speed Underground 2. A small prerview of things to come?

Bah..my X800XT/PE will stomp one of those... ;)

Mine actually does....

ATI Radeon x800XT-Platinum Edition @ 552/572(1144)

(And actually it goes even faster in the winter... those numbers are my safety settings I used this summer in my computer room which has 2 hot PC's running all day in it and which is on the third floor of my house that has no Airconditioning.)

6800 Ultras are ALL OVER THE PLACE. Zipzoomfly.com has them, Newegg.com has them, hell the corner Fry's has a WATER-COOLED BFG 6800 Ultra in stock. It is WILDLY more available, and about $100-200 cheaper, than the x800 XT-PE is.

And ATI's performance figures (just like nVidia's figures) are a joke. They claimed the x800 Pro beat the 6800 GT in HL2 by a huge margin, when both HardOCP and Anandtech's benches showed it at best tying, and often losing, to the 6800 GT. Same deal here.

Look, the x850 is going to be fast as hell, since it is a tarted-up x800, which is fast as hell. But you can't take any manufacturer's performance claims at face value; they are crooked as hell.

So if I bump my clocks a measly 20mhz, can I call it an AGP X850XT PE? :D

hell the corner Fry's has a WATER-COOLED BFG 6800 Ultra in stock.

The fact that it is water cooled doesn't say much about availability, actually the opposite, since it is watercooled they could take chips which would not cut it to ultra speeds on air cooling, put them on water, and they can reach ultra speeds

The watercooled ones run at higher frequencies than stock ultras.

yeah that's a pretty ridiculous statement...not that I expect any better from you...nvidia has nothing to do with what gets watercooled...they sell Ultra chips which are rated to run at ultra speeds on air...the cooling solution is up to the card manufacturer...

No, the memory on the x800 xt pe is 560, the memory on the x850 xt pe is 590, and pci-e does offer about a 1-2% increase over AGP depending on the game as well.

wait until hte x850xtpe comes out in agp.. (if) and then if ur card can run at x850xtpe speeds then flash it with its bios and there ya go hehee

From what I've seen on average PCI-E cards perform worse than their AGP counterparts. Check some 6600GT benches on XBit or Anandtech. PCI-E vs. AGP, PCI-E is usually 1-2 FPS below.

You're saying slicks don't provide good grip?

Cmon now, at least make a good analogy, not a shitty one.

I souns and looks like, ATI is trying to market to the people that are new to the Computer age, "as in the ever increasing number of people that slowly making the move to building and moding a PC rather than buy" I noticed how the PC magazines are more and more doing articals on how to build your one PC.

And Im sure ATI has a very good idea as the state of AGP Vers PCI-E, and as someone already stated, the Big PC Manufactures like Dell and Gateway will jump on this bandwagon and Market the products they sell with new and improved Technology Ect Ect. And ya know i maybe 100% wrong here who knows, but I don't think ATI is all that worried about all the hard core PC enhusiast that already have AGP based systems and trying to seel to them the Negw PCI-E cards.

They know very well that the MoBo Manufactures are not rushing PCI-E boards out the door as of yet, basicly they are / mayb? trying to get a new crowd of PC buyers / builders.

Just a though

actually the memory on the x800xt pe is rated as 1.6ns which is 600mhz max ... which is probably the same on the x850xt pe ... since the next level is rated at 700mhz max which has not been used yet

check here for more info ..

If they perform the same I believe you might as well call it an x850 ... if its STABLE

True, but it is only recently that the 6800Ultra has increased in availability. You still cannot find an Ultra sitting on most store shelves next to a 6800GT.

As a 6800Ultra owner, I am a bit confused by [H]ard's latest review www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=Njk3 Quoted from review: "Make no bones about it, the X850XT-PE can easily best the NVIDIA 6800Ultra in many of today’s latest 3D gaming titles, and Catalyst driver maturation is evident in these latest evaluations. And while it does fall a bit behind in DOOM 3, it hardly delivers anything close to what could be described as “bad” performance. Still, at a suggested retail price of US$549, the Radeon X850XT-PE should give you nothing less than the ultimate gaming experience in every gaming title." It would seem that the X850 series is just increasing on a lead that the X800 XT PE already had. It just doesnt remain consistent with other vid card reviews done by Brent and Kyle. Meaning the 6800Ultra was the overall best performer. The X850 surpases the X800 by only a few frames per second and yet it easily best's the NVIDIA 6800Ultra in many of today's latest 3D gaming titles? Sure the Cat's have gotten a bit better, but his is supposed to be as a result of magical driver maturation?

I have a couple of questions for you all and didn't want to start a new thread to get them answered. We have all heard statements like the Nvidia is better at OpenGL games and ATI at Direct X throughout forums. How many OpenGL games are there really besides Doom 3? It seems as though there are twice as many Direct X games than OpenGL. Also what are your thoughts on the next generation cards? We know that they are likely to sport 512mb of memory, will they again double the performance?

The watercooled BFG's run faster than the air cooled OC counterparts. So your theory does not hold water dude. Besides with the way BFG runs their ship I doubt they are going to be cutting corners like that.
