I just got done skimming over the results from this xbitlabs review and I'm really surprised.

The X850 seems to hold up very well. There are even some tests where it actually beats the 7800GTX. Is this for real? I thought the 7800GTX would blow the X850 away... It's so much newer, has more pipelines, etc..

I'm kind of shopping around, bored at work, etc. you know. ;)
 
the x850xt and pe are great cards...they do beat the gtx at a few instances, but its the opengl that lets them down again :(

but the gtx overall beats it, but doesnt obliterate it :D
 
Yeah it seems the GTX is overall faster but not by all that much. Seems like it would be a bit of a waste to upgrade from an X800/850 series card. Maybe wait for the "Ultra" then? I guess either that or the X1800XT when it becomes available.
 
The new generation of cards are really designed with 1600x1200 and higher resolutions in mind. At the lower resolutions they are CPU restricted and don't really show their power, even against previous generation cards.

If you read that xbit labs review it looks like the X850 does pretty well against the 7800GTX even in 1600x1200. The GTX beats it - but it's not a thrashing IMO.

I already picked out the motherboard I'd like:

But I'm on the fence. No cards are out right now (I don't want to do SLI) that are worth dumping my X850 for. Maybe the X1800XT - but it might end up costing a boatload. Ah well... Patience is a virtue I guess. At least I'm not hurting real bad w/the X850. lol

lol...id skip this gen if i were you...my x850xt pe can play fear easily...which was the biggest threat to our vid cards...check this to see my results: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=966801&page=3

also how good is ur cooler compared to the stock cooler with the card?
 
I use VF700-Cu for my X850.

I went ahead today and just got the evga 7800gtx and a soltek k8t890 board. I can sell my current board, gpu, and my raptor 74gb and not end up paying all that much for it. So no big deal. Newegg has 6 months no payment plan to boot. :p

and how good was that cooler?what oc's did u get with it?
