X850 Max Volts?

Hello all,

I have a X850 pro unlocked, and am going to do the VID mod and bump the card from 1.4v to 1.6v...I just got the new thermalright V1 Ultra cooler and it dropped temps from 44/66 to 32/48, I am just wondering how high temps are gonna rise after the mod? I can put another fan on to drop temps another 2-3 degrees
 
Here are the voltages on my X850 from VJ


Modded Voltages:
Vcore = 1.675
Vdd = 2.275
Vddq = 2.325
 
Yeah those ViperJohn X850's are crazy! im guessing it liquid cooled? what are the temps like?
 
No its air cooled with one of his custom coolers.....temps never go over 50c @ 639/651 ...and I beat the hell out of this card :)

and to the op have your temps increased/ obtained a better oc?
 
I really like that cooling solution you have there. I might have to try that with some old VC's I have laying around...

Straight from VJ...these are with stock memory timings....

Nice scores! Im pulling in just over 7200 3DMark05 @ 555/612 with the modded mem timings, I am going to do the volt mod tommorow im going for 1.6v, hopefully i can keep temps in check...I shall report back with results!
 
if i add more voltage will it give me a higher oc? like on cpu's?
 
Alright, got the VID mod done today and so far bumped the core speeds from 555 to 595 and bumped my 3DMark05 to almost 7500 temps stayed pretty low as well! 38/57 ...im happy with this for awhile ;)
 
Just wondering what the best bios for this card is? I can switch to the XTPE (AGP) bios because i dont use the onboard fan header, but there are soo many versions!

if you want to flash it then flash it to the companys manufacturer bios..but it wont make a difference...how did u increase the voltage?

Mines an XT and its flashed to the PE BIOS....VJ did this so Im not really sure of the benefits..... You can see the BIOS version in the first screenshot in tech note # 2..

I would asume there are some benifits , or he would leave the stock BIOS in place...This is just my opinion though...

I can shoot him an email and ask if you like.....

Yeah that would be great! info from the god of X850's would be much appriciated! its a BBA X850Pro (AGP, R481) with 1.6ns RAM

And Mayhs, www.techpowerup.com has all the info under articles on how to volt-mod the cards. All i did was the VID mod, by connecting two open solder pads, it bumps voltage up! but make sure you read up real well before doing anything! and grab an aftermarket cooler!

I did 7200 in 05 with just an AGP X800 Pro flashed to X800XT PE with a zalman cooler and a pencil mod.


Seems like the viper john stuff isnt really worth it. Yeah its badass looking though :p
 
I ended up with the Thermalright V1 Ultra...with two fans installed its as good as watercooling, but its a pricey beast, i suggest the Zalman with some ram-sinks, easy to install and looks like a large compatibility list, but if your going for all out cooling on air, the thermalright cant be beat!

do u guys know how to volt mod a x850xt with the pencil trick? I tried the follow the article from techpowerup but doesn't seems to work for my x850xt..

It might be your name thats causeing the problem :)
 
The pencil mod doesnt usually work the graphite cant stick to the board properly, some people have done it with a line shaped like this: [ on the paint line to the left. But i suggest the VID mod it can be done with a little conductive pen/ or as an alternative you can use a rearwindow defroster repair kit, it comes with a conductive paint. but again make sure your cooling is up to it! dont wanna fry a perfectly good card for a few more FPS ;)
