Sorry if this has been asked before, i tried searching.

What is the difference between an x800xtpe and an x850xtpe? Is it just clockspeed? Do they use different cores? From what I’ve seen, the 800 is clocked at 520/1120 while the 850 is at 540/1180. Considering the difference in price, that’s not a lot of difference unless there is something other than clockspeed that factors into the equation. Also, I noticed from the picture's I’ve seen that the ram on the x800xtpe doesn't even have ramsinks on it, and if it's already running at 1120mhz, it seems to me that with the addition of some ramsinks that there is a lot of overclocking potential there.

It's just that simple?

Does the 850 use higher end ram chips or anything?

heh

Not sure about different chips but they really are as similar as u explain. That's why majority (if not all) x800xt pe owners skipped it. Depending on variables the x800 will reach x850 speeds anyway and even surpass it at stock. Putting an ati silencer on for example aids the x800 match the x850. But then you have the arguement that the x850 will always overclock higher than the x800......

Depends what price u can get them at. If u can get the x800 alot cheaper go for that, bang the silencer on and oc that biatch :) IF thats what u want :)

Besides the slightly higher clocks is the cooling differences. The x850xtpe with its double slot cooler does function more efficiently than the x800xtpe. It vents the hot air from the core out of your case. Were as my x800xtpe just blows it all over the inside of my case lol. The 120mm exhaust fan (ty Antec) right above her does the trick though. I also remove the PCI shim just below my card to draw fresh air in directly over it.

the ATi silencer just makes the x800 like that tho. Depends if u wanna start taking fans off etc.....

Mod an X800XT/PE. You will smoke most 850's. =) More room to oc with them.
