I'm at a loss, I've checked the fan and its still spinning just fine. ATITool is showing me temps of ~65C with the fan in smart control mode and 60C with the fan at forced 100%. This card is not overclocked and has been running fine for me since I bought it, but earlier today while playing EVE Online I got a POST-style beep and a warning came up saying the card was at unsafe temperatures. When I checked it it showed at 101C!!! This has *never* happened before, and the only thing I can think of is the fact that I upgraded my drivers but its been almost two weeks... any advice?

Hrm...well, 101C is a *little* hot for a non-overclocked card. Still, the X800XT does run EXTREMELY hot, so it's not out of the ballpark for an air-cooled overclock.

Anyway - have you checked to make sure the fan isn't clogged up with dust? It's still plugged in and spinning properly? The HSF isn't clogged with dust - there is airflow coming through it?

Yeah, the fan has been checked, its fine. The thing that bothers me is never before have I gotten a temperature warning and usually it idles around 50-55C! Now suddenly its not even within 10 degrees of that and its going up over 100C on load.

That does seem pretty high, my X850 xt pe idles at about 45C but often exceeds 90X on load.

Make sure you clean out the dust and check the air flow in your case.

Well I'm not sure if it was the hard reboot or if it was the dust-removal (compressed air FTW) but the card is now running at 45C Idle and 76 with two EVE Online clients, so something fixed it... still thinking about an aftermarket cooler though, anyone have any thoughts on the Arctic Cooling Silencer ?

well i have same card , and chanegd my fan to ati silencer 5 whitc works perfect i have 41 temp atm , and its stays stable ;) !
