X800XT question, please help

Well I just bought a All In Wonder X800XT and its made by Ati. I noticed that the core and memory is clocked at 500 and 500, I was wondering is it simple to overclock this to 520 and 560 so its running X800XT PE clocks? I clocked it at 520 and 560 and ran 3DMark05 about 4-6 times and had absolutely no problems and I also played World of Warcraft for about 2 hours and had no problems. Would you say that im safe to keep it at these clocks 24/7? Is the X800XT and X800XT PE like the Nvidia 6800GT and 6800Ultra? Where everything hardware wise is identical except the clocks and MOST 6800GT can hit Ultra speeds with no problem, is this the same issue here? Thank you in advance for the help!
 
yes the only thing different are the clocks. The XT and XTPE use the same core with the same number of pipelines etc...

The overclock seems stable, I would check your load temps to make sure they aren't to high, otherwiseI would say you are fine.
 
The only way to tell is to check temps and see if you have artifacts in your games due to heat. If your games play artifact free, your golden. Artifacts can range from little white dots to horrable images. I have a BBA X850 XT and i have it overclockedc to past X850 XTPE speeds. The core on a X850 XT is 520/540, and a X850 XTPE is 540/590, so as you can see it isnt hard to go up to the next level for either series. Thats why i dont get it, why would ANYONE buy a X850 XTPE for hundreds more than a X850 XT when all they need to do is up the speed 20 on the core and they have a XTPE?

Well the funny thing is I downloaded Ati Tool 0.0.23 and i still can't see my temperature reading. I tried within the drivers and just cannot find it...what is going on here?
 
Right click on your desktop, select properties, then select the settings tab. Look at the bottom for the Advanced tablet, click it. Now, look for something called OVERDRIVE(tm), click it, there should be 2 guages, one measuring your OC and the other measuring your temperature.
 
I tried going into my drivers properties and saw no temperature reading, so i took back my AIW X800XT and echanged it for another one, thinking its defective and even with this new one I don't see my temperature sensor. Anyone know whats going on? Another question is, on the memory modules on my X800XT it says "Samsung" does this mean I have the same memory as the X800XT PE? If it does then I should be able to reach PE clocks right?
 
find Ati tool 0022, If I remember 0023 has a slight bug in it , thats why I stayed with 0022. It works for me just fine. I also set my 2d at 350 core and 350 mem, no sense making my card sweat for no reason, and my 3d is set for 530 and 580 for gaming. I spend more time in 2d.

That is a good idea. I wonder if the lowering of speed (and thus heat) would prolong the life of the card, or would the continued changing of timings negate the lower heat? Interesting.


OFF TOPIC= sorry but this a noob question, and I am to sad to start a thread for it. What is the difference between PCIx16 and PCIx1? I googled but came up with nothing useful, maybe I worded it wrong.

Anytime you lower the heat for any electronic part it will prolong the life. The timing changes will have no effect.
