X800pro -> X800XT SOFTMOD inside...

I might as well try reading Japanese.... LOL

I got the files, now if I can just figure out what in the hell to do with them without seriously jacking up my system.

Edit: screw it, I'll wait for an english version.

woah sweet, Ill have to figure it out tommorow when my x800 pro comes in. Unless of course if it was a joke :confused:

I've got time, an X800Pro and the desire to try it. Besides I have a ghost image for my computer if needed.

I hope your cards mess up!

Troll elsewhere. God I am sick of people like you. This is a hardware site, when stuff like this comes out, people are interested in trying it to see if it works. That's half the fun so if you don't have anything constructive to say, don't bother posting.

Hmm, I don't understand how you can softmod a pro into an XT. The xt has the 4 extra pipes, so don't you have to physically create the connection to unlock those pipes? If it works awsome, but I don't see how it's possible.

Well near as I can tell it's a driver hack. ATi may have locked the card out one of two ways. Unlocking one way or the other might allow the card to work. Who knows how it really was built.

As for the softmod. I tried and tried and couldn't get it to work. All it does is this

copy .\Softmod\X800XT.sys .\Driver\2KXP_INF\B_15581\ati2mtag.sy_

So it's some sort of hacked file. It looks like it's designed to overwrite some ATi driver file and make the change. But that's all it does.

It would take someone with more programming expertise than I have to figure out what that file actually does. Although this mod may not work correctly for us, that could be due to the bad instruction translation on that page. If someone actually can get into that file with some programming knowledge maybe we can find out what the thing is doing. Or trying to do.

See if it's total BS or if the author is on to something.

I doubt it works, ATi said from the beginning they werent going to allow softmods, it probably just forces it to run x800xt drivers for x800pro, maybe some small performance increase there (like the old hacked 9800p->9700p drivers).
