X800 XT installation question

Just a simple question that I can't seem to find an answer on. Bought a bare x800 XT card and installed it. I hooked up the molex connector but noticed that below it was another 4 pin connector, similar to the type you'd find on a motherboard to plug a fan into. Do I need to plug anything into this; if not, what is it's purpose?

as far as i know, i think those are both inputs for the card
so you prolly want to get some juice goin through there

Are you certain? The online manual at ATI's website doesn't mention hooking anything up to it; however, their drawings and instructions don't even show or mention it whatsoever, so I want to make sure before I start hooking up random cables ;)
 
I dont think u need to plug it in..if ya dont hvae a molex..then the floppy plug would be an alternate solution..so dont worry about it:)

Thanks. That was my guess, but wanted to get other opinions.
 
Errr, if that 4 pin connector is what i think it is, then plugging ANY power cable in there would probabaly insta fry your card.

This 4 pin connector, is it yellow?

Yes. About 1" below the molex connector, on the left side of the card as you look at the front of the vid card.
 
If I understood right, the yellow thing you are talking about is the CD audio input from your cd drive. Only the vivo cards have it. And all x800 xt's are VIVO's. I have an x800 xt pe and an audigy 2 zs sound card so I just connect the cd audio to the sound card since I think it would be better. But if you want, go ahead and connect the x800 xt to your cd drive.
 
im the seller for this card, all i had was power connected to card...
 
yes molex, im sure the guy above ^^^ knows wat hes talking about, this maybe be dumb but is it possible that its so you can connect a fan controller for your vid cards fan...blahhh
 
Do not connect power to the yellow connector. Its a video input, video output connector (vivo) and its meant to be used with a front panel video in/out bay device, or a case that supports it. It's not an audio connector, and its definitely not a power connector.
 
ahh u beat me to it, well ill paste it any ways, got this from a some site "...the card itself houses a yellow colored connector that lets you connect a video-in cable that could lead to the front of the case for a front-mounted video-in jack."

I'm pretty sure its not meant to control the fan. For the guy who bought this card, you should be able to find a small thin wire that connects from your cd drive to the motherboard. You could unplug it from the motherboard and stick it in the yellow connector for your video card. Then check if the sound from a cd works, otherwise move it back. It should work though. If you want to control the fan or overclock you could use ati tool. If you have a Sapphire card, they are coming out with a new utility called Trixx that lets you overclock safely and control fan speeds. It should be avaliable on their website in May. I would advise you to turn off your computer and unplug the power before removing any wires. And to get rid of static, stand in one place and touch your computer case before touching the parts inside. Dont want you to destroy anything. Hope this helps.

EDIT: Sorry, I guess its a video connector. Got confused because this website said its an audio input but other websites say its video, so its video. http://bit-tech.net/review/394/
