x800 PRO or XT?

I was on newegg...and the XT was a whopping 200$ more. Now, I want ot make a high end PC, and I was wondering is there any diffrence between the two? I mean MAJOR diffrences that is :p
 
Yeah there are. Aside from clock speed differences, the X800Pro has 12 pipelines instead of 16. That's a HUGE difference in performance.

You mean the XT cost $200 more than the PRo?? That means it costs around $600. It should only cost $500 or about there. Were you looking at the PCI-Express version of it..?
If the AGP version cost $600, then thats way way to inflated. Go with the 6800 Ultra for about $500. The Pro isn't really that good overall, pretty much loses to the 6800 GT most of the time. Ever think of going to nVidia?
 
I completely agree with the last post. That's too much. Having owned an X800Pro and 6800GT I can attest to the fact that the X800Pro < 6800GT.
 
I'll list the cards I've personally tested throughout the past month.

ATI X800 PRO
BFG 6800 GT
PNY 6800 GT
Leadtek 6800 GT
VisionTek X800 XT
PNY 6800 Ultra

and my decision: Powercolor X800 XT PE
If I only had $400, I'd still choose X800 PRO over 6800 GT. This is from a long time nVidia fan.
 
The x800 pro has been beating the 6800 GT in far cry and HL2 and a few other instances using the latest drivers that I've seen. And most people miss the fact that pro's overclock quite nicely too, but all you hear is the fact "overclock a GT to ultra". I for sure would take a 585/575 stock cooling pro over a GT anyday, oh wait I did =O

u phannyboi! a 6800gt completely owns the x800pro in most of the games. about 90%......
and i don't think it even beats the 6800gt in far cry either.. and in HL2 they are even most the time but the gt comes on top some of the time.. so i rather get a 6800gt over a pro anyday.. wait i did but they didn't have gt's so i grabbed an ultra =0
 
First off, grats on the Ultra.
6800 GT is more bang for the buck than X800 PRO, but the reason I chose it over 6800 GT is because of how nVidia cards perform in games generally these days. the 6800 GT provided higher FPS, but there was just too many hiccups, the X800 PRO on the other hand, although had less raw power than 6800 GT, provided a much smoother gaming experience. And in my own opinion I think ATI provides better image quality than nVidia, therefore the X800 PRO holds more value to me personally than 6800 GT.

What are you talking about...? Hiccups..?? What hiccups? I own the 6800 GT and I get very, very smooth gameplay in games including HL2 and CS:S. And ah.. I am sorry I did not understand something..doesn't higher FPS mean less "hiccups" and like you said, the 6800 GT provides higher FPS.
How big do you guys think the image quality is better anyways on the x800 PRO? I am personally skeptical that it is better by much.
When I was buying a new videocard at CompUSA I was too considering the x800 Pro. What I really like about it is the bigger fan than on the 6800 GT, higher clock speeds, and ability to be modded into a XT. However, in the end the 6800 GT just provides more straight forward raw power than having to mess and potentially damage the x800 PRO by modding it. So thats why I went with the 6800 GT.

Having smooth gameplay can be a subjective to different people, what I meant by hiccups is a pause in game to load, it happens very less in ordinary games but it can be a big issue in MMORPGs, and I am a very big MMORPG fan. the 6800s I tested tend to give me pauses very often, ranging from a second to 10 seconds, on the X800 cards although the FPS might not be as high as the 6800 GT, it was not possible for me to see any differences by eye. And the short pauses on 6800 GT would be nonexistent on X800, where the long pauses on 6800 GT would be divided into a few short and fast pauses on the X800.
The image quality between 6800 and X800 is mainly from AF, although the new ForceWare 67.02 have fixed the "shimmering" issue associated with nVidia's AF method in some games, it was still not as good as the X800's AF in my opinion. But this problem can be fixed in the future by newer drivers.
The main reason I would choose the X800 PRO over the 6800 GT is because of the smoother gameplay I mentioned above, but like I said, what I feel like is smooth gameplay might not be what you consider to be smooth.
 
I own both a 6800GT and An X800XTPE and while the 6800GT is a very nice card indeed i currently feel nvidia really have fallen off the boat :p As far as there drivers are concerned :eek: They are pittiful. But out of the choice you have displayed i would go the X800XT they really are a showstopper of a card ;)

Why an XTPE, why not save some money, get a XT and OC?

yeap. all those points is why i switched to a x800 pro from a 6800 GT.

I dun get hiccups in any of the 4 MMORPG's I play. The shimmer thing is found to be because of negative LOD's, which the clamp on the 67.02 fixxed what shimmering I had, in a game I don't even play -- but no other game ever had them.

The reason I choose the GT over the Pro: Look at raw speed benchmarks... then look at performance benchmarks... Raw speed, I have seen nVidia loose very little times, but in terms of performance, I've seen it tie or loose by a margin (same goes to ATi, the XT and these cards are very close, and I'm probably gonna put an XT in this shuttle when I upgrade before I go to college), but the thing about it is, is that Performance benchmarks are almost purely based on the driver implementation ontop of the raw speed. So I guess I put trust in nVidia for making up what they don't have already -- which I don't see. I don't think I've ever stuttered in a game with my new system other then the first 2-4 seconds after load; my FPS is always up there and consistantly (that's one thing I noticed about playing with the Pro and XT.. Pro in my personal experience had same consistancy in frams as the GT but the XT had a more faulterable variable..dunno what it was though)...

Either way thoug, both are awesome cards...

On your XT vs Pro thing though.. There won't be a noticable enough difference not to get the Pro as long as you don't want to run 1920x1480 or something like that... Plus, they like the GT overclock. I've seen Pros upwards of 550+ on stock, and GT's at 450-480+ on stock.. so it's sorta luck of the draw on overclocking... so, it's personal preference.

Just received my X800 XT PE from Newegg today, superb customer service from them btw. Packed my 6800 Ultra back into the box, and I cannot be any happier.

Sorry i think you miss read me lol :p I have the X800XTPE (I Know i could got the X800XT For less$$$ :eek: )But if i was to buy now yes I would jump all over the X800XT is a great card and Overclocks to buggery lmao.
 
I'm looking to ditch my 6800GT for an X800XT PE. Where's the best place to find one? Most of the cards on newegg.com are out of stock.
 
900mhz effective, the stock pro is 450mhz on the memory and since its DDR its 900mhz. So really 450 = 900, 560 = 1120mhz
 
The price drop effective when the X850's ship(maybe the X850 pro since it replaces the 400 doller segment) will make X800 pros very attractive @300 USD..
 
anyone interested in a Silencer NV 5 for sale? I used to have a BFG 6800 GT, but the damn thing won't OC that good...won't get past 400/1100 with the Silencer, AS3, Ceramique, and dedicated power line on antec 480w. Now i'm using my trusty ol' Geforce Ti 200, until I get my AIW X800 XT.
