X300SE or 9700Pro?

Finding out for a friend.. not sure what's better. Not familar in any way with the X300SE.

Any help would be appreciated.. thanks!
 
x600xt is a little faster then the 9600xt but just a smidget. x300se is about equal to a 9200se.

x300se is pretty much a pci-express 9600se.

Its not directly the same thing, since the x300se is .11 micron and the 9600se is .13, but preformance and feature-wise, they are pretty close.
 
X300 = PCI-E only
9700 Pro = AGP Only

Now if it was a X700 Pro, that'd be different, and the 700 would be faster. But the 9700 Pro AGP is faster than the X300 PCI-E but for the sake of advancing Technology I'd go ahead and get a PCI-E card.
 
Does seem odd to be asking for a comparison between the PCI-e card and an AGP card. Is this to settle some kind of argument or does he have an AGP/PCI-e motherboard?

No it isn't. It's a PCI-Express 9200. The X600 is PCI-Express 9600XT. The X700Pro is equal if not slightly faster than the 9800Pro, although it is a newer design and supports everything the X800's have.

Do your research and read the reviews, that card is NOT a 9600 anything. Now in speed the 9600SE sucks ass and it may not be that much if at all faster than a 9200, but I assure you that the X300 is a PCI-E 9200.

No it isn't. You can buy X700Pro's at Comp USA right now, or 6600GT's in PCI-E at Comp USA. They are abundant now. Only the high end cards are hard to get.

But it can be done, as I am using a 6800GT PCI-E.
 
X300SE = 9200SE
X300 = 9200
X600pro = 9600pro
X600XT = 9600XT
X700pro = 9800pro

Close enough.
 
never ever ever get an SE series card. ever. never. ever. the 9700 blows the x300se out of the water.
 
SE = Slightly Under clocked with fewer Pipelines, at least thats what I've seen from my experience.

He means out of the two cards listed, the x300 is the only PCI-E card. Unless ATi started making PCI-E versions of cards two generations old and nobody told me.

Absolutly not, radeon 9200's are based on the old 8500/9000 architecture, and are direct-x 8.1 cards. The x300's are based on the 9600 architecture and are direct-x 9 cards, hence the x300se = 9600se and the x300 is fairly close to a 9600 nonpro, maybe a little slower.

My friends husband currently has a 9700Pro, but wanted to buy another pre-built Dell. If the X300SE turned out to be better than the 9700P, he would have stuck with it, but since the 9700P is better, they will likely pick up an AGP setup.

Sorry for the confusion, I should have noted that in the first post. Thanks for all the help!
 
the X300SE is a terrible, terrible, terrible card.

It came with my computer and ran at about 30FPS in the CounterStrike Test.
Imagine how well it would do in a real benchmark.

I can't say anything about the 9700Pro, but I'm 400% sure its better than the X300SE.
