just built the computer yesterday, im useing a Zelman CNPS7000B and im getting idle temps of 58-61 is this normal, or should i go about reseating my heatsinkand adding a tad more paste?

not normal for idle, but that cooler cant handle the heat load of an X2. load temps are astronomical, even from a decent idle.

i would think about a new cooler.
hell even AMD's new stock cooler will give you better temps than that.

really? i was told zelmans were one of thes best to get? i guess ill throw the stock one on and talk to newegg about returning the zelnam, waht are some beter HSFs in that price range?

whoa, way too high, even the stock heatsink does better than that, its what i have and i idle arnd 40

more is usually less with thermal paste.

I would reseat it, and just put a small dot in the middle of the IHS and let the heatsinks pressure spread the paste. The small dot should be the size of around 2 rice grains.

IHS? the CPU or heatsink? oh and with the stock cooling 60c is idle so ill throw the zelman back on and try again

the zalmans are good coolers, but that is a rather old model

i'd look into buying a SI-120 or even a scythe ninja. They are pretty cheap and cool great.

IHS is the copper plating covering the top of the CPU, protects the core.

stock cooling shouldn't be 60C idle.. you sure you're doing it right? Check out the AS instructions:

is it hot in your house? do you know ambient temps?

ok i was doing it wrong, thought you had to but a thin layer on the whole IHS ill go clean my chip and HS and start over

ive tried it with both stock and zelman, the dot in the middle now my temps at idle are 60c -64c  im going to reboot in to BIOS and see what it says in there

ok this is odd, i installed the monitor that comes with my mobo and its temps show normal, while everest shows way hot ones
