x1950pro problems with FEAR

Ok, I play FEAR combat and I upgraded to a Sapphire Ultimate x1950pro from an x850xlpe. When I run FEAR I am getting crap frame rates. If I turn all the options down to minimum or off, with a rez of 1280x800, I get an average 42 fps. Is there a bug with FEAR I should know about? If I turn on all the bells and whistles at this resolution I get a 19 fps average.

My setup currently is an Athlon 64(sckt 939) single core 3200 @ 2700mhz. I have 2 gigs of overclocked pc3200 OCZ gold series ram. I am running a raptor drive as my main HD which has all my games on it. I have a 550watt smartpower 2.0 Antec psu. My motherboard is an NF4 DFI lanparty.

Is my processor the bottleneck? I don't understand how that is the case because FEAR does not utilize a dual core cpu and 2700mhz is damn good for a socket 939.
 
Driver problem? Maybe try DriverCleaner and then re-install? I'm getting decent frame rates even at 2560x1600 (AA off, soft shadows off I think).
 
There's definitely something wrong - my x1800xt is only a little more powerful, and I average 48 FPS with max settings @ 1680x1050.

It's probably a driver issue (since you switched cards). As stated above, run DriverCleaner and reinstall the latest drivers, and that should hopefully solve your problems.
 
I agree...I bet is a driver problem..I have an 850xtpe and it runs fear very nicely..
 
Turn off Catalyst AI and rename the executable for FEAR. It fixed my issues for both FEAR and FEAR Extraction Point. I don't see why this wouldn't work for FEAR Combat. It's really strange but I was getting crappy frame rates consistently regardless of settings but renamed the .exe and it was butter smooth.

Your rig is fine, it's an ATI driver optimization issue. I'm running Cat 6.12 for Vista but I think I'm going to go back to 6.11 and use the Warcat drivers, they worked better. The 6.12 has issues. The screen goes crazy when changing resolutions and AA settings while in a game. FEAR plays smooth but gets choppy after a little while of playing the game and I have to drop to desktop and then go back into the game and hope the computer doesn't lock up. I didn't have this problem with the 6.11 drivers.
