Here's my dilemma:

Just got my new 22 inch monitor...native 1680x1050.

my 7800gs can't really handle gaming at that resolution. serious sam 2 seriously sucked when i tried to play it. will a x1950pro solve my problem? i don't need to max everything out, just want something playable.

rest of my rig:
AMD 64 3000+
1 gig of ram
windows xp

ps.. reviews i'm looking at seem promising...

i'm seeing two molex power connectors on the back of this thing. this might seem stupid but both of them have to be plugged in, right?
 
Im running a 21inch same rez.. I have the x1950pro ... and have had little problems.. has been mostly over drivers.

about only thing I can suggest is make sure your power supply can handle it this cards needs 30amps on the 12line.. Seems many dont believe that and have had nothing but problems.

Reference your system about the only thing Id suggest is double your ram 2gigs is getting to be the norm. Personally Im running 3
 
For such resolution with the X1950PRO you'll do fine. Just make sure to get a beefy PSU. Also you can get a X1950XT, but if you don't overclock your CPU, the performance gains will be reduced greatly and the performance difference between PRO and XT will be hardly visible, in that case, aim for the X1950PRO.

I assume you're looking at the Sapphire card since you mentioned two molex connections. It's a great card and it should work well for you providing your power supply can support the card. Regarding your other question, yes both Molex connections should be hooked up and to seperate cables, dedicated if possible. Good Luck.

i have since re-optimized my system since running these, so i'm interested to see what i can pull now. everything was left at stock settings in the drivers, these were all with 6.12s when i first got the card in january.

edit: if you get teh sapphire card, recommended PSU specs: 12v rail @ 30A sustained - AMD 64bit based & X18/9/95 series.
what PSu do you have? model/wattage. or post up what the rails put out, and state if it is max or sustained power.
