Ok I took the plunge and upgraded from my 6800GT.

First thing I noticed was screen flickering on boot. I tightened the monitor cable down, still an issue. Also has slight flickering (seems like a refresh) of desktop icons, but only for about a minute or so after boot if I try to work my desktop too fast. Still, does anyone else flicker during start up? I uninstalled my Nvidia ones first, then shutdown, and changed the cards.

Also, is it just me or do these drivers seem flaky? Of course I tried Quake 4 max but in Ultra quality but it locks up, and when using the CCC to overclock, it locks in everything. Using the CCC it overclocked my mem and GPU to the max...

I set my CCC o/c back to default and then I uninstalled CCC, was this wise, and am I right it's just flaky drivers? Also since it appears CCC sucks to overclock, what should I use?

I want to know so I can tell whether it's the card or just immature drivers. For the games I can get to work right, I'm getting about double the FPS of my 6800GT at same reslution with 4AA/16AF thrown in for free.

Thanks for any insight.

Did you run the driver cleaner utility? If not, try that, then reinstall the drivers.

When my CCC loads, my screen flickers twice when enforcing my default overclock settings. Other people have had better luck using the ATITool to overclock (as you can set fan speed and Core/Mem voltage).

IMO, the current drivers and CCC suck, can't wait for new ones to come out.

The flickering issue is a little strange. Can't be driver related, as ATi drivers aren't loaded until after the desktop/login screen comes up. What kind of monitor do you have?

If you can get ATi Tool to work, there's no real need to ever launch the CCC, and you can begin to disable ATi background services.

The flickering is just as its booting, it goes away.
Just weird. I boot in like 9 seconds from off though, could be that (screen clicking)

I downloaded ATI tool, right off the bat is says it doesn't support R580 due to 2D clocks and 3D clocks being different. .25 beta 12 I think it was.

I have a CRT monitor, 19" flat screen Hitachi.

Card seems to rock though, 79FPS avg in lost cost with 6AA/16AF reflect all... woot. I was getting 40+ without AA and 4X AF on my GT (reflect world)

Yeah been reading drivers suck, I will keep the card and bank on them maturing. For now I'm just going to run non-overclock and non-CCC. Will try CCC next release. CCC seems to add another 5 seconds to my startup too once I load my profile, seems a system hog.

Also I don't know what people say about noise, but apart from the .5 second burst when I hit the power button, mine is quiet compared to my Gainward 2-slot 6800GT (had 2 fans). It's not any hotter either, around 67c idle... I like the cooling solution, whereas before all that hot air was just circulated back into the system, now it goes out. I think because people can now "feel" the hot coming out they never realised it was always like that before just they couldn't sense it by putting their hand in the back of their system.

yeah , the flickering is there ,

nothing to worry about ,i think its normal for this card ,

to get stable oc you need to manualy set the fan to 90 or 100% at all times with ati tool ,

yes ati tool beta 12 works with this card
