Excuse my noobish question here but I am having a hard time finding answers.

I have an ATI x1800xt in my system now and plan on adding a second but I see that it requires a CrossFire Edition x1800xt card.

What is the significance of the CrossFire Edition card? Is it just that it includes the cable for connecting the two cards? Maybe I'm missing something obvious but I'm not seeing a distinction between these cards at any of my retailer's sites. I just want to make sure I purchase the correct product.
 
The cable will most likely come with your crossfire-ready motherboard.. You dont *require* a crossfire edition video card to use crossfire as of catalyst driver v. 5.12 you can use another standard x1800xt (I believe thats the version).. HOWEVER, you will see significantly better crossfire performance using a crossfire edition card because it includes the crossfire chip which does all the "blending" of the two cards' imput in hardware.

All this time I've been searching for x1800xt CrossFire Ediition and as soon as I removed "XT" from the search, I started finding some answers. I checked with Asus and I don't know about the cable coming with the board.

I didn't know I could use the catalyst driver but I'd rather use a CrossFire Edition if I'm spending the money. So I guess my next question is do I need an X1800 CrossFire Edition like the one in the link or do I need an X1800XT CrossFire Edition like the card I already have in my machine.

Monarch has an X1800XT CrossFire Edition listed but the picture on their site shows a non CF Edition card.

I'm on the same page now.... I'm now just wondering if there are different versions of the CrossFire Edition and if I need an x1800xt card of if the x1800 is what I need.
 
The x1800xt Crossfire card will work with any Brand x1800. x1800xl or x1800xt, but will only use 256mb of ram if pared with the x1800xl. Clock speeds remain the same and can differ for each card. What you need is:

1. Crossfire x1800xt (any brand)
2. x1800xt or x1800xl (any brand)
3. ATI Crossfire motherboard
