I'm looking to mod my 'pack to get some extra cooling. I'm looking to cut an 80mm fan hole on the right side, next to where the RAM and CPU would be. I know this seems simple enough, but I've only used the Dremel once and don't have much experience.

With that said, if the following help could be provided I'd greatly appreciate it:

-Recommendations on what Dremel accessories to use
-Preparation practices/methods
-Any particulars on cutting aluminum
-Best method for cutting a fan hole
-Best method for finishing/sanding.

Any other info would be helpful. I'm not looking to paint it, so I figure it will have to be a pretty clean cut. I thank you for your help in advance.
 
While cutting a circular hole with a dremel is do-able, I'd still recommend using a bi-metallic hole saw. Since it's aluminum, you could likely get away with a regular (high speed steel) hole saw, that's normally designed for wood & soft materials like that, as long as you go slowly, keep your rpm's down, and use lots of cooling.

I really do believe you'll be much more pleased with the result, and your nerves won't be as frayed when you're done with the mod. ;)

As far as finishing any hole you cut, a fine-tooth file is your best tool, along with lots of patience and a gentle hand. Remember, you can always remove more material, but not less!! :eek:
 
I have one of those and its pretty pointless to add a fan there, if anything put one in the front because you remove the whole top and sides as one piece. This would make it a real pain to take on and off which it is already. I added a fan to the front and its pretty good just make sure the airflow path is good and that you keep your handle up so it can get some air
 
I'm ditching the Qpack and going with a Coolermaster Centurion 541. It's got an excellent design and good cooling.
 
I just put my system back into my X-Qpack. I am selling my main case so I needed to get my system out of it. I now remember why I stopped useing it. One of the main problems I am having is tha the only way the Antec Liberty will fit into the case is with the fan pointing up, therefore I can't put the top/sides back on or it will restrict flow to the PSU. I think this case was great when it first came out, but now there are a few better cases out now that are better.
 
What u doing with ur X-Qpack ??? Maybe selling it ???
Im looking for one to get some parts out of it . :D
