X-Fi Sound Problem

I went out and picked up an X-Fi today and I quickly checked out some music in 5.1. I then fired up a game of BF2. I set my settings on Creative X-Fi , Very High Quality. Everything seemed to sound alright. I had the crystalizer enabled and cmss disabled.

I then went and put it on headphone and enabled cmss-headphone because thats suppose to be one of the things so wonderful about this card. I start up battlefield and i'm completely disgusted. Everything sounds sort of muffled and I get all kinds of static pop noises from vehicles... mainly. But it also happens with gunfire and everything really. It's quite horrible. Any sugestions?

Edit: Yea umm even music sounds quite horrible in headphone mode. Even if thats how its suppose to sound in headphone mode. The static popping isn't even remotely acceptable.

hmm i think this is some sort of prank. if best buy has them then the corporate office must be blowing the creative execs really hard to have exclusive rights

Erm Best Buy near me had em. They were on a shelf way up top with no price or anything. Just a security device on em.

Ok there is NO static issues at all when I have BF2 set To Hardware instead of X-Fi. When I set it to X-Fi it gets all kinds of crazy static crap happening. Headphone positioning with headphone CMSS is quite nice. It's very nice but I cannot deal with having the speaker mode set on headphone. It makes everything sound all muffled and crap like.

I'd set it to 2.1 for speakers like I use to, so it won't sound like muffled ass but then i'd be missing out on good positional audio....

Update. When I set my creative settings to 5.1 no cmss. Then in BF2 I set it to X-FI Ultra High Quality. There is no static popping and it sounds pretty good on my headphones.

lol why is this a prank? 10 or so people on this forum alone have them, I know 3 people in Buffalo that have them.... Its not that unbelievable, BestBuys website even lists them as in stock, go check for yourself...

Well, I've got some Senn HD 570's hooked up through my Klipsch Promedia 5.1 Ultra's to this Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic. I wish I knew what settings I should have it on, because the cmss-headphone is great for positional audio. You know right where your enemy is, the problem comes with the headphone speaker mode. It makes everything sound all muffled and ass like, just like on any sound cards headphone setting. Not only that but the headphone mode with cmss-headphone and Creative X-Fi Ultra High quality set in BF2 = static popping. Having my headphones through the klipsch and setting the x-fi up for 5.1 no cmss = nice clear sound but the positioning isn't quite right.. .. ... .

Wonder if we'll be getting new drivers any time soon? I know best buy jumped the gun this week and released the cards early? The slip in the box did mention downloading new drivers from creatives site but this could in fact be generic. After all, the x64 drivers arent on the cd, we tried them on a new install x64 box today and it didnt install drivers unfortunately so that clears up things as to whether they were available on the install disc.

keep in mind BF2 needs alot of patching done to both Sound and video...

I think once they polish how it can handle Dynamic Lights and shadows / Sounds (for x-fi or Audigy /whatever) then it won't be such a monster to your system.
