Within less then year of building my system with a medium range video card, the newest 5870 card from ATI completely and utterly spanks my GTX 260 192 like a little bitch tied in the corner. :( I couldn't believe the FPS difference I saw in Anandtechs review. Make me wonder how nvidia's GT300 will fair in comparison

Either way, I hate this hobby sometimes......

The problem is that you bought the GTX 260. I bought the 8800 GTX, let's see... almost 3 years ago (2 years, 10 months to be precise), and it still chugs along awesomely for the initial $750 CAD invested. That's something like $0.75 a day for long-lasting performance. I'm quite happy with it. The GTX 260 sold at a good price, much lower than the 8800 GTX, but the difference is, it didn't leave a long legacy of greatness.

Unless you're really starved for the extra power, I don't really see nothing to be sad about. On the contrary, I own that same card and I'm pretty excited. This is progress after all.

lol someone's in love

gtx260= out around 490 days?/$400 initial price? (went to $300 after one month)

$1.23 per day so far and it is more powerful "to chug along awesomely"

I bought not 1, but 2 GTX 285s, and at a premium for the extra memory (I use it for CUDA sometimes) just a couple of months ago. Imagine the feeling when you see the comparisons all with that very same GPU then quit whining. :D

You got it upside down :p

$400/490 days = $0.82/day

Yeah, but I had mine for 600 days before you did, so I was able to enjoy it for that long. ;)

THAT's the difference, and quite frankly, the GTX 260 is not more than 50% better than the 8800 GTX at its best. Talk about a disappointment.

Yeah I got a gtx280 for 300 bucks and I don't regret it, unless you have a 30 inch monitor you're fine. I already played through both Crysis games at decent settings, and there's really nothing else I want to play I can't max out at my res. When the day comes that there are some games worth upgrading I know I will, but I think that time is somewhere off in the hills.

I bought my 9600gt for $60 after rebate in September of last year. Works fine with all the games I play at my native res (1920x1080, no AA). Will probably sell it a few months after the 5770 comes out and is less than $100 (unless I can find a 4770 coming up soon in the $60 range). When I sell the 9600gt I could probably still get $50 for it. :)

I know that card is "too lowly" for many of you but you can buy better cards and use them cheaply if you buy and sell them at the right-ish time.
