With my current system in my sig, is there any reason for me to upgrade??

i am looking at an x800 and maybe a sound card but im not sure.
 
Soundcard, yes
Vid card, not worth it.

Your vid card is pretty much up to speed, the x800 is just coming out, who says there won't be problems with the card right off the line?

I'd wait a while...
 
you don't need to upgrade your video card.

if you want something to upgrade, get a dvd-rw.

i was looking at a nec burner on the egg so ill probably do that too :)
 
TBSC are nice...

If you want to talk to a audio junkie, post something on the Audio Forums and Duck-BOT could probablly tell you everything you wanted to know.

Anyways if you play a lot of games you might want to consider an Audigy 2, a lot of music maybe a M-audio Revolution
 
Either the Audigy 2 ZS OEM or the M-Audio Revolution are both good choices for about $100.

Newegg has the ZS OEM for 88 + Free Ship and the Revolution for 99 + 4 S&H.

I'd definitely also add the DVD burner suggestion. A decent 8X dual format writer can be had for as cheaply as $75 -100 shipped nowadays, and with the 12x drives and the dual layer drives coming out, those prices are going to fall, but not much more.
 
It looks to me that he's using the onboard sound. I've run that on my NF7-S, 8RDA+, and DFI Infinity....I haven't had problems or qualms about either. I'd stick with the SoundStorm.

I'm a creative fan myself, and there are Live!/audigy cards for under 100 easy. TBSC Cards from what I hear are very nice, but I just thought I would give you another option under this category.

Newegg sells a DVD+/-R/RW/CD-RW for under 100 as well, made by Lite-On.
 
i currently have a TBSC, and the only problem i have with it is the bleed through on microphone:

whatever you hear on your speakers, you will be sending to whoever your talking to. It's a hadware issue and they can't or wont fix it. I don't worry about it cause hey i dont have to hear it.
 
another vote for a TBSC, i havent used it but ive seen all good things about it (except the mic problem, but do you honestly use a mic enough for it to matter?)
 
actually im not using onboard sound cause my board does not have soundstorm (deluxe only i think), i have a TB Montego 2 right now that i have had in my past 3 machines :)
turtle beach has been good to me in the past so i might stick w/ it, but and audigy 2 @ $88 sounds pretty good.

TBSC has very clear audio (beats the living daylights out of most of creative's cards) but it SUCKS at 3D audio in games. I usually have to use software mode for the games that support software 3D (most require hardware just to do 3D at all.) I mean, it will work, but it's just so inaccurate that you practically could just connect the speakers all together with a bunch of y cables to one stereo output I feel like.

Personally, I'm strongly considering using software type things such as the Audigy 2 NX (external through USB) and the better onboard audios (for example, someone mentioned the NF7-S which uses a SoundStorm and I hear it's quite ok) just don't use crap like AC97. When you use software, it should make the audio be treated like it is rather than going through crappy hardware filters.

Also, Turtle Beach has just released some new cards. One of which I think is basically the equivalent of the Santa Cruz, but 7.1 audio. However, it may have some REAL improvements beyond that, so I suggest you investigate somewhat as it may have better quality as well. (You can still run anything from stereo up to 5.1 on a 7.1 card with most soundcards, this one included if it's even vaguely like the Santa Cruz.)

More than anything else, I feel like the Santa Cruz is best for the price when it comes to things like movies and music. Even if apparently it really does audio at 16-bit even if you do play at 24-bit with a nice decoder. For the price range it's still good for such purposes. Of course, you have a Radeon 9800 Pro. No one has one of those just for writing in Word d-:
 
I would get the Audigy 2 ZS Gamer Limited Edition. Its only $110 at Newegg and Zipzoomfly has it for $128 with a $30 MIR and free 2-day shipping. It comes with 5 full version games includeing Halo which togethor cost far more then the sound card.

Creative cards are the best for gaming so if your a gamer you want one.
 
Darn it, anyone else miss when Creative Labs had competition in this area? Darn you Aureal, you are supposed to be around today with A3D 4x or something... *sigh*

Yeah, he's right. When you want to play games, you NEED creative labs. Preferably the latest with Eax3 as it has some nice effects from what I understand.
 
I would get a nice Athlon xp-m 2600. the watts is low. and you can overclock the HE double hockysticks out of it. Soundcard ummm.... turtlebeach is still a nice card.
