I currently have a xfx 4890 and am thinking of getting an xfx 5850,this will probably be
the last video card i can buy for quite some time , i don't game much and eyefinity
is out of the question. My question is does anyone think this is a good upgrade or
save my money and wait until the next generation of cards?

intended usage?
rest of components?

these are quite important questions

I watch movies and some t.v. , i currently have the card set for hd tv and prefer this to
our flat screen tv. My system components are i5-750,evga p55le, 8g of corsair ram,
corsair 850tx psu, (2) raptor x 150 in raid 0, samsung 2494 monitor and wd 500 gig
backup hdd.

would not even consider an upgrade if you aren't gaming, period

What's wrong with your 4890? Why are you even asking this question if you don't game much?

As i said this would be the last card i will beable to buy for a long time, getting divorced
and expect i will have money tied up in alimony payments.

I may pickup on gaming as i probably will be spending more time at home on the
computer.

regardless of your financial situation (really no offense is intended here), if you aren't even utilizing the hardware you have now, why upgrade/replace it, unless something is wrong with it?

if you don't game, don't upgrade, if that changes in the future, you've got the ~$250-$300 you would've put into the 5850 in hand, and you can buy something down the line (perhaps for less)

FRL97: A 4890 is a soild video card! I own a 4870 (which I'll be upgrading to a 5850 once the prices drop) & I game! I have a 24" LG LCD @ 1920x1200 & it's still a good card! No reason what-so-ever to upgrade @ this point. Keep it & save your money! BTW..Sorry to hear about the divorce. So many people these days get one. I've been married since 92' & we are still togther, although we have our issues @ times! Good Luck!

Sorry to hear about the divorce, I hope things turn out as 'ok' as possible and alamony payments as little as possible for your sake.
