Would new CPU help warhead performance

Hi,

Not sure where to put this. I am playing warhead and I am getting 100 % cpu usage which makes my fps jump up and down.

I would like to know if upgrading my cpu to maybe a q6600 would help.

Definitely, so would most Intel dual cores
To get the most from a 4870 you want an Intel CPU that can reach 3.0GHz to 3.6GHz.
 
are you getting a new motherboard,and cpu?

what is your budget,what do you want to do?
 
I probably will as my cpu is getting a bit old, But would it help the fps in warhead.

Also would I be able to overclock it above 3+ with my memory

I would like to keep it below £300, I am interested in the products listed.

Q6600 is actually old technology
in all honesty i would wait
but if you need it right now- then a q6600 will do fine.

Q9x50 processors- i expect to tumble down in the next few months
 
what is the performance difference between the two and do they overclock well
 
My personal advice would be to get a E8500 instead, specifically if gaming is the primary use for your machine. Even though its a dual core proc at right around the same speed as your current amd dual core...its MANY time faster. That DFI board would work fine with it too, and it would be about the same price or less.
 
Ill probably just wait a month or two and get a q9550 or higher depending on the price drops.

I say go for an E8400 and OC it to like 3.5-3.8ghz. Dual cores usually beat quads in most games because they OC higher and most games only use 2 cores.
 
Honestly, I doubt you'd see much of a difference unless you like to play at fairly low settings, or low resolution...or are prepared to spend a lot of money. Otherwise, that CPU is still good enough. Hold out for moderately priced Nehalem systems.
 
consider yourself lucky that it runs at all. dozens of us are getting "game not available, try again later" for single and multi games, for a week now. steam support refuses to address this.

also, skip that mainboard, it has been discontinued and replaced with the lp dk p45 t2rs plus version that corrected its several problems. or the matx lp p45 jr board.
