Would it be possible to....

anything can be done depending on your knowledge of electronics. I mean if the remote actually controls power flow than by routing the sensor to the 12v power of a computer should allow hitting the button to turn on.
 
Yes. Once you find the outputs in the reciever, connect these in Parralel with the comps power switch. Presto.
