worth upgrade?

is it worth it to upgrade from an amd socket 939 x2 4200+ to an intel e7200 ?
if so will this e7200 be enough for an 9600gt and maybe later on a ati 4870?

planning on going with the p5q-e p45 from asus.. and like 4 gigs of ram..

only game i really play is counter-strike source..maybe i will do some cod4 ...

or shall i just pick a q6600 and get it over with? is this one also a large boost from the x2 4200+ ?

What are your reasons for looking to upgrade? What all do you do with your system?
 
believe it or not first of all its just time to upgrade... x2 4200+ , 1 gig of ram , gforce 6800 ... i bought a 9600gt but there is no difference in fps between these 2.. so the cpu is just holding me back..

I do some multi tasking... id like to be burning a dvd,listening to music and play my game..and not getting below 80 fps..

just some thoughts..
 
yes the 7200 will be a worthy upgrade. no it will not allow you to burn a dvd while playing a game, you'll want to go quad core for that (imo). for as cheap as you can land a q6600 these days, you might as well just grab that.

so basically a q6600 on that p5q-e paired with 4 gigs of ram and the 9600gt will do just fine?
will i also get a boost in smoothness in CSS ?
 
i think it will be fine. i don't source much these days, but my 8800gts 512 paired with a quad was great with it. you will see very close to that performance in source. keep in mind if you play other games, that may not be the case. honestly kind of depends on what kind of cash you would like to spend. the q6600 and an ATI 4850 offer some SERIOUS bang for buck right now.

i just whent from a 939 3800+ X2 @ 2.5 to this E7200 @ 3.6 and its MUCH faster

Well, I went from an X2 4200 939 @ 2.6Ghz + Radeon 3870 @ stock to an E7200 @ 3.8Ghz + Radeon 4850 @ 700/1100.

The difference is astounding. And I should also add that I had the 3870 with the E7200 for a couple of weeks before the 4850 came out. And the difference was VERY noticeable even then. The 4850 just blew the doors off my gaming experience.

I'd say it's worth it if you can get a good OC board and a nice chip. Most E7200s will do 3.4Ghz with a slight voltage increase. 3.4 is a decent speed.
 
Yeah you're definitely going to see a HUGE increase :)

Once you get it, you'll know what we mean. Especially if you're running vista.

I went from x2 3800+, 2GB of ram to a q6600 @ 3.5Ghz, 4gb of ram and it blows me away everyday how amazingly fast it is, and still is.
 
yes that is a very good upgrade and if you overclock the 7200 it will even better.
