Our office manager has been complaining about the computer running too slow. I have done what I, with my limited knowledge, can to help speed things up without killing the computer. So, I am coming to all of you for advice on building a Shuttle or just ITX base computer.

Misc. work aspects

Budget:
$1000.00 Dollars or 17,493,000 Dong ;)

Must Include:
Monitor
OS
Outlook 2007
Media creating software (DVD, CD, WAV, etc...)

I HATE SLOW COMPUTERS

DVD burner combo drive

I am hoping to get most of these parts at Fry's. Especially since there is one close to me. Thank you in advance for all the help and I am looking forward to reading what everyone comes up with.

His sysytem must be like Pentium 2 to not be able to run those uber basic tasks smoothly; an Atom-based PC/netbook will run those apps to the ground. Has his system been defragged regularly? Visitations to NSFW sites? Virus and trojan stricken? A $1000 computer will turn to trash if he's a complete noob at maintaining a PC, which you should get him to educate himself in first, as I can't think of any instances a P4 and higher computer (assuming that's what's he's got) can't run those apps butter-smoothly. $1000, that's a gaming/workstation budget; those tasks are office PC specs (aka. require nothing remotely mid end).
 
Its an old celeron single core I believe. Maintenance has been performed by me. I seriously doubt she goes to any NSFW sites. Its the age of the PC thats hindering the work performance.
 
We looked at dell and they are around $800.00+ with no monitor and lesser parts. I will check out Eeebox today. I was thinking of going to Costco and checking things out there because I can get 3 year warranty on all electronic using my Costco Amex. I thought making a new shuttle would be fun and we could get better components.
 
The Eeebox is a good idea but wont work for us. HDD space too small and we have 2 other harddrives to transfer info from. We need 500gb or more. And for the price of 500gb we might as well spend the extra $30 and get 1TB. Costco was a bust but I did pic up a TV when I was there. Not a total loss.
