Hey everyone I originally came here for help on building a gaming only PC and because I had time on my hands before building, I got to thinking. I should sell my mac and just build one really good PC. So I wanted to throw a lot of the ideas that are on my mind at you guy since there is a very wide range of knowledge on this forum.
Heres a list of the primary things I will be using the PC for.
1. Gaming at 1080p 120hz
2. Video Editing at 1080p but hopefully 4k in the upcoming year.
3. Adobe After Effects along side everything else in the Adobe CS package.
3. Photo Editing my GF is big with photography
4. Little bit of Music Editing
And here are the parts I have so far.
- Corsair 800D
- i7 3930K
- GTX 680
- ASUS P9X79 PRO MOBO
- 32GB RAM DDR3 1600
- Samsung 830 Series 256GB SSD
- 1TB Western Digital Caviar Black
- ABS 1100 PSU
- A cheap CPU heat sink
- ASUS STX soundcard
- AKG Q701 Headphones
- BenQ 2420T for gaming
- Dell U2411 for work
The reason I went with the Corsair 800D is because I will be going liquid cooled as soon as I get extra money after the build.
Dont see a reason to spend $400 dollars more for the 3960X which is why I picked the 3930K. But we will see what Ivy Bridge has to offer although I doubt it will be better for what I need the processor to do then the 3930k.
I know the gtx 680 is a little over kill for 1080p gaming but I will be gaming while recording in fraps and sometimes recording in fraps and live streaming so I think the gtx 680 will be a good pick.
I went with the ASUS P9X79 PRO because its the cheapest ASUS LGA2011 mobo and I dont really need all the benefits the more expensive ones give.
32GB of ram!! Reason for that is Adobe after effects is a RAM hog and I do plan on making servers for some games, plus RAM is pretty cheap anyways at least the kind I want is.
I was told the Samsung 830 SSDs were one of the best and I went with 256 because I think that would be a good amount for all my software and most of my games.
Heard nothing but good things about Western Digital Cavier blake drives thats why I choose that.
Went with the 1100 PSU to be safe rather than sorry.
Again went for the cheap heat sink to run stock clock as a temporary fix until I went liquid cooled to OC it.
ASUS STX cause its a beast
I got the chance to try a few headphones recently and I fell in love with the AKG Q701s for a work/game headphones.
I heard the BenQ 2420T was an amazing 120hz monitor and I'm not a fan of eyefinity or nvida surround, theres just to much going on for me lol
Although I do like multiple screens for other things and instead of getting another gaming monitor I thought it would be smarter to get a Dell U2411 IPS monitor for video and photo editing.
Alright so that is everything thats been going threw my head and I would love some feed back and/or suggestions as I would hate to spend all this money and not be satisfied. Since this build is more expensive then the one I was planing on building for just gaming its going to take some time to build probably after the summer. And for just the computer parts I dont want to spend more than $3000. The monitors and headphones wont be bought by me. Thanks for taking the time to read my ramble! =)
