it sounds like the mobo could be bung.

i'd try taking everything apart and putting it back together- that's a good way to ensure that everything is plugged in properly. but, if you do have another mobo that you can try in it's place, that's where i'd be looking

i thought it was the mobo, it probly died cause it had a half hour ride in the back of a ute on the way to my dads work.
unfortunately i dont have any intel mobos at all to test it on, ill just tell the guy to give me some cash and go get him another mobo.
can anyone reccomend a good intel mobothat goes out for 100-$170au
thanks

I think this is a poor way of dealing with the situation. You haven't done any troubleshooting at all. Hardware isn't as incredibly fragile as some people think...

Anyway, I would AT LEAST try clearing the CMOS first. Also try running it with the minimum hardware required (motherboard, PSU, 1 stick of RAM, processor + hsf, vid card, no drives). Then I'd start swapping out some of the easier parts to play with (vid card, RAM), and then finally the processor (at least reseat it) if nothing has worked.

i agree with that. just buying a new product before troubleshooting the old one is not usually a good way to go unless you need the computer for a lan the next day or something like that.

i would clear the cmos, reseat the CPU, memory and video card. your best bet is to find someone that has an intel board that would let you test with it, that way you can find out exactly what is wrong before you go out spending money on new components
