Wireless networking and 2.4ghz phones

Yeah so I've got 2.4ghz cordless phones... the salesperson told my dad that you need 5.8ghz if you have wireless internet. At the time we didn't so like an idiot my dad went out and got the 2.4ghz phones.

So now fast forward a few months.... I'm starting university soon and I need to get a laptop.

What type of wireless internet can I get that won't bugger up the phones?? I know there's 802.11b, g,a and a whole bunch of other crap. Which one can I use? Since I game a lot I'm looking for something that's fast too.

Actually, as long as your wireless phone and wireless router/adapter arn't on the same channel, your fine.

This happen to my friend, all i did was hit cht chan button on the phone a few times and wala!
