Windows XP doesn't show hd

Ok, I upgraded my pc and put in a newer motherboard and cpu...etc. I pulled my two 160 gig hd's from the old motherboard and put them into this newer stuff. I formatted the os 160 and reinstalled Windows...etc and then I put my second 160 gig in, which is just for storage, and the drive will show up under Disk Management as healthy and active, but I can't access the hd under windows explorer or my computer...it doesn't even show up.

Anyone got a clue what's going on here?

we be bumping here...come one...no one has ever run into this problem before :confused:
 
Are you sure the hd is partitioned and not just unallocated space. You can partition or format through Disk Management. I had a problem with a hd not showed up because it was just unallocated space and the computer wasn't seein it.
 
If it shows up under disk management, but does not show a drive letter under disk management, you need to a.) import the drive info and assign a drive letter or b.) just assign a drive letter if it shows as valid Filesystem info on the drive or c.) format and assign a drive letter.
 
NTFS permissions might be part of the problem
disable simple file sharing and take ownership of files and folders
 
Again this hd was working perfect as a data drive on my old motherboard. All I did was upgrade the motherboard, cpu and video card. Then reinstalled windows and all it will do is show up under Disk Management.

When I left click on the drive in Disk Management the only options listed are Delete Partition (which wipes out all my data) or Help and that's it.

How do you import the drive info and assign a drive letter or just assign a drive letter if the only options are those listed above. Under Disk Management it's showing the drive as Healthy and Active and 35.28 gb of free space.

Thanks for the help! This is an ftp hd and driving my crazy trying to get this backup.
 
Thanks everyone! I finally figured it out. I converted it to a dynamic disk and then it let me assign a drive letter to it and got it going now.
