I have a quandary. And it's so simple.

I recently built a new computer. But before I did, I switched my old hardware from Xp to Vista. Liked it.

Everything except for one thing. I was unable to use windows sound recorder to record audio excerpts from a movie or a song or whatever. (like to record whatever you are hearing from the speakers, without having to resort to using a microphone or something)

I figured it was just because the motherboard I was using previously was older, and this function did not work in vista.

Well, I am using all new components now, and the same thing happens. It looks like it's recording, but it's not. The recording devices are only from a microphone, and it shows a line-in device as well.........which is not what I am doing.

My drivers and what not are up to date, so I don't know what to say really.

Any thoughts? Do I have to resort to using a line-out cable, and going back to the line-in input? Will this change when I get a dedicated sound card in a month or two?

Motherboard is an Intel DG33TL, (integrated sigmatel Hd-audio) vista 64bit.

Yay for fixes:

- Right click the sound thing in the taskbar, go to Recording Devices
- Right click in there and be sure to check the Show Disabled and disconnected Devices
- Something called Stereo Mix should show up
- Right click on it and enable it

You should be able to select it in whatever you are using to record. If it is not there, the hardware does not support it.

Hope that helps. :)

No line-out option either, just line-in.

Looks like I'm waiting until I get a new sound card.
