Hey guys,
I have a 3TB RAID 5 (4 1TB drives) running on Windows server 2008 R2 that is completely software RAID. I could have used the motherboard's RAID but it was an old 780i board and I didn't want to have a proprietary controller dictating what my upgrade path was. I figured with Windows Server software RAID I would have acceptable performance and I should be able to throw those four drives in any Windows server box and have it recognize and read the RAID array.
I would like to run some scheduled consistency checks on the drives so I don't have a drive fail and then have another fail in rebuild because of some hidden bad sector that I never knew about because some files are not read on a regular basis. Are there any programs (preferably free) that will do this? Any other ideas on how to accomplish this task?
