Windows not recognizing new drive...HELP!

My friend has recently bought a new hard drive for his shuttle SN95G5. His primary is a 120GB WD 7200RPM, and his new slave is a Maxtor 160GB Maxtor 7200RPM. Well I installed it for him, made sure all the jumpers were correct. Booted up windows, the BIOS recognized it as the slave. But there is no new drive letter in My Computer, its not shown at all.

When I go to the device manager it recognizes that its there, im thinking it needs to be formatted..but how do I format if its not recognizing it. Do I need some special software or something? Any help would be awesome...thanks.
 
right click my computer

goto manage

click on Disk managment

Drive should be visible there, format and partition.

^ all good ideas, but if that doesn't work, remember that Maxtor needs to have it's own special software installed. It should have come with the HD kit, on the cd it's called MaxBlast or something akin to that. I just bought the 200gig version over Black Friday, and made the same mistake..I thought it was just plug'n play, but until you put in the CD and load up the software, it won't go. Hope this helps.
 
Does anyone know where i can buy jsut the cd stuff becuase i bought just the drive by itself...
