so it sounds like you're only using WHS for backup purposes, since the majority of your storage is on your Server2008 machine.

I'm planning on putting all my media on the WHS/Vail sysem, primarily to take advantage of Vail's sweet streaming capabilities. Thing is, I'm not sure how many cores to devote to the VM.

Im using it for Backups/Remote Access/TV Recording & Streaming/iTunes Server.
I stream Movies from the Host because its extremely large dataset and i dont want/need duplication on top of RAID6 for that.

Plus i need high sequential throughput on my RAID for encoding purposes and running that through pass-through on Hyper-v while running my CPUs for F@H and Encoding kills disk performance for pass-through volumes (50MB/s instead of 600MB/s sequential).
