Last night i decided to try the Ubuntu live CD to see what the fuss was about.

It would not load, so I removed the CD and and restarted the computer. Everything worked fine...when i get home from work my wife tells me something is wrong with the computer, It has restarted but apparently the OS drive is gone, cant find it in the bios or anything.

Could this have been happened because of the Live CD or do you think the HDD drive is dead? My other two drives appear to be available in the bios.

And the Ubuntu disc does work, i am using it to post this...hoping i don't have to reformat one of my other drives.

Can you try it in another computer or an external enclosure? Run "dmesg | less" in a console, and see if anything about the drive is mentioned. Arrow keys scroll up and down, q quits.

I tried what you said to do but it won't run...I am gonna try the drive in another computer Friday. The BIOS has picked it up now, but i still can't access it via windows.

Installed this drive at work, windows sees it and says that it is working properly, put i cant access it.

Any thoughts?

no...I just want to get information off of it.

When i right click my computer and hit the manage button, it does not show up...but in the device manager it is present, also when i left click my computer the drive is not present.

can you assign a drive letter to it in device manager? Does it appear formated and partitions in the device manager?

worst case: GetDataBack from www.runtime.org
