I'm amazed at how efficient Windows 8 is. But it makes sense.. This OS was designed for tablets and such, so efficiency was obviously important.

I moved from Windows 7 host, where VMware Workstation 9 worked pretty well. But after moving to Windows 8, and using the exact same VMware image I have noticed a huge performance increase. The VM feels like I'm working on the native OS, there is no indication of any delay, lag or slowness like I experienced with a Win7 Host. Remarkable.

And I hear Hyper-V, which is free and native to Windows 8 is even faster, albeit with a few less features than VMware Workstation.

Impressive.
 
I noticed this as well, while I was running the Windows 8 Enterprise evaluation along with VMware Workstation 9.
Much better memory management.
 
Hm... I've been planning to do this myself for over a week now. That is, moving Workstation9 into Windows 8 because of what I've read about Win8 resource management versus Windows. Guess I'll be doing it this weekend after reading this post. :D

But I have to say... as far as your slowness went, I do not experience such a thing right now using Win7 as the host. My VMs are quick and responsive, but if it gets better win Win8 I'm looking forward to it!

I've noticed Windows 8 offers greater performance improvements with older hardware, less capable hardware. I'm running an older x58 system with an i7 950 and I noticed it. But on new high end systems there may be little to no noticeable improvement.
