CompUSA is running their 200gb Seagate HD deal again for $99. $30 in instant savings and a $70 Mfr. Mail-In Rebate. It's #309209. Remember this will not start until 3/28/04.

I got in the 1st time let me tell you the drive is worth its weigh thing gold for that price. Its the most quietiest drive i own :)

My friend wasn't so lucky with this drive. On one random day after a reboot, he mysteriously lost all of his data on the drive. The files just disappeared for no apparent reason whatsoever.

Luckily, we burned most of the important stuff onto DVDs.

I had a Maxtor 200gb that lost all my data a few months ago and I thought it was a bad drive. Since then I've been waiting for a good deal and I recently bought a Western Digital 250gb drive and the same exact thing happened.

Well I looked at my Western Digital Data LifeGuard CD that came with the hard drive and stuck it in while in Windows 2000 and it told me that my OS was not fully compatible with drives over 137 gigs. So I ran the little utility and it edited the registry to enable large drives. So I stuck in my Maxtor and looked for the same thing from Maxtor "Maxtor Big Drive Enabler" but it said my registry was already updated.

Anyway, Seagates seem to be good drives because I have an 80 gig Seagate sitting here humming along nicely and I notice Dell uses a shitload of Seagate drives for their Servers.

So I guess you have to make sure you get the big drive enabler or what ever it is to make sure you're fully compatible. Everything else on my computer was up to date and I can't believe I missed that since I usually toss aside those CD's that come with hard drives.

I picked one up early this morning and I hope that rebate does not fail me. I have to say I am very impressed with Seagate because I have 80gig Cuda which is great and I hear this one is just as quite and faster.

I've never had problems with Seagate rebates. I've gotten 2 of their drives and received both rebates in about 3 weeks.

i work at BBY and i got mine for employee price $166.97 and then got the $70 mail in :)
