Just as the title stated - which manufacturer make the best bang for the buck FX5900 card? Also, what's happened to the BFG Asylum FX5900 cards? They are impossible to find now for under $240. I've been thinking either a EVGA FX5900SE or a Gigabyte FX5900XT.

I have the MSI 5900XT and I am very happy with it. The only problem I have with it is that it does not monitor the temperature Like I thought it would when I got it. MSI even had on their web site that it did but they have changed that now.
But it is a great card and does some nice overclocks. To read a review on it check out

as well as some others ones online just do a search on them.
From what I read some other brands might do a little better in overclocking but the MSI has VIVO if you might want that. As well as a quiet cooling (Can not hear it at all over my other fans) And comes with a nice software package 3 full games as well as a lot of utilities and other free samples.

Well anyway if you are thinking about a 5900XT I think you would be hard to find a better deal than the MSI as long as you want things like VIVO and all the other things it has. But if you want just a 5900XT that is good at overclocking and do not care about the VIVO you might look at some other brands and save a few bucks. I have seen other brands for $25 under the MSI (Might have been on sale not sure) some places just look around some.

Thanks for the ideas guys. The Gainward Golden Sample sure has a higher clock speed at default then any of the cards that I was considering. I'm a cheap bastard so it's going to kill me to spend the $$ but my old card is just about useless on the newer games just coming out. I'm going to have to "Byte the Bullet" so to speak soon. ;)

i got the PNY 5900 ( non ultra ) which actually turned out to be an Asus 5900 ultra with 128mb it shocked me. Anyways i flashed it to a 5950 and its providing. again my friend says with a 9800 pro says he gets 35-45 constant where i get 30-40. he also said it never dippied in teens like mine does in a extremly crazy scene. ive heard good things about the BFG but they take in a ton of power just make sure your PowerSupply can handle it( one of my other friends got it and he couldnt play for over 2 hours because it ran out of power he also had a small PSU).Rob the 5900s are about 200 bucks how come you just dont go for a 9800 pro at compusa?

i believe the best brand is made by ATI and they renamed it to a 9800pro:D

go for PNY if your not a fan of ATI though

I've always owned Nvida cards but have considered the ATI's. The only thing is the compatability problems the ATI cards have with some games that scares me from buying one. It's probably not THAT big of a deal but it's still there in the back of my "Buying" mind. I've never ran into a compatability issue with an Nvida card.

Thanks for all the imput guys. I tend to analyze a video card purchase to death before buying so it will last a LONG time before I'll need another - Look at my sig.

How the hell???? My msi 5900xt barely does 468mhz core and 768 mem. I feel slightly cheated.

Know what? Check your PM...I'm selling the MSI card in my sig. Might suit your needs.

Get the Gigabyte 5900XT. I just bought it and its perfect. It has alot better cooling on it then the other cards. It has the heatsink covering the RAM chips also. It comes with a good gaming bundle also. 3 full version games. Arx Fatalis, Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness, and Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield.

The card also has a bright blue LED in it that lights up when the card is on.

I havn't had a chance to overclock it yet but as soon as i finish my system i will.

Anandtech did a roundup off all the cards, for the FX5900-MSI is the fastest and most quiet

FireingSquad also did a 5900XT roundup and it was the slowest :p.

BFG is coming out with an "5900XT OC" and I think [H] will do a review soon so you might want to want and see what that brings to the table
