is there another way to attach the acrylic to the side panel without having to use molding? Personally I do not like the way side windows look with molding.
 
I was thinking of the same thing, the only idea that I have is to cut the whole smaller and then cut holes through the case and window and bolt it on. The other idea i had was some sort of adhesive or double sided tape, but i would worry about it falling.

BTW can someone please tell me how sturdy case windows are that are mounted with the molding and locking strip. Im installing a top window that is precut for a 120mm fan and dont want it falling in and damaging my components.

outside of making sure the molding is covering the perimeter of the window and the locking strip installed, is there any other methods to ensure proper installation?
 
Not really, just common sense.
Mark and make your cuts accurately.
Cutting just inside the line.
You want a tight, secure fit.
Take time to deburr and file the cut edge smooth, so you don't damage the molding.
A sharp edge could easily could slice the inner web of the molding.

I know what you mean - I don't like the look of the plastic molding either. I've always mounted windows with "servo tape" (a common RC car/plane item), but standard 3M molding tape works much the same. Go to an auto parts store (or even Wal-Mart) and you should be able to find it. You don't have to go around the entire perimeter of the window with it, but the more you use the more secure it'll be.
 
the first window i put on my comp i used adhesive from home depot. Lock-tite i believe. i used the outdoor stuff and didnt even put that much on it and it stayed there for years. you shoudlnt be worried about it falling off unless you're using elmers glue :p
 
and i used thumbtack heads to look like fasteners. :)

duct tape works for holding the acrylic or glue gun is more neat lol. so many choices. No matter what, you will be the only one seeing the inside of this window. So ur either gonna be neat, use glue and tabs for a professional appearance or you'll tape it and call it the day. heehee. Both are very effective anyways. "_-\]-\o]o;o
